Aston Villa v Bolton Wanderers, Sat 30th Sept @ 3pm
30 September 2017 18:47 Post ID: #1716933 - in reply to #1716349
Not at our best but winning without getting out of 2nd gear is a positive for me.
We didn't have to be very good because Bolton are awful!

The came for the draw, made it very difficult and basically spent most of their time assaulting us! Like they were playing rugby!

The ref was diabolical and gave us nothing apart from the pen which was a stonewaller.

3 points is all that matters. Hopefully back to our best in 2 weeks against Wolves. Massive game.

Pre-game myself and a fair few others called this as an UgLy 1-0 win and that's exactly how it transpired .
It's 3 more points and that's all that matters.
Johnstone 7 dealt with everything
Taylor 7 good game never a red
Chester 7 accomplished
Terry 8 man of the match , lead well
Elmo 7 assured
Hourihane 7 did ok
Whelan 5 off form today
Snodgrass 8 very offensive
Adomah 7 confident
Kodija 6 at last a goal
Davis 7 man handled throughout

Thought it was going to be a tricky game when I saw the sides come out of the tunnel. They had a load of big players and were clearly going to be physical and disrupt the game at every opportunity. Their manager has clearly read the Tony Pulis book of tactics.

What you need against a teeam like that is a decent ref , but we had one of the worst ever to set foot on the turf. Davis did well to keep his cool as he was wrestled to the floor everytime and could have easily lashed out in frustration.

I actually thought we looked more like scoring once the subs came on and .Samba earned his years money with that block at the end

Yes Sir Den I feared Davis being sent off as that clown hadn't got a grip and it was only a matter of time before Davis panned the gorrilla marking him .

My favourite moment of the game bar the goal. The 2 giants they had at the back spent the whole game bear hugging our strikers. Davis stood up to them well enough though.

That ref was an utter disgrace. Rarely have I started a post talking about the ref but that bloke is an utter ****. Stick your own four letter word in there, but I'm using the c-bomb.

I clocked pretty quickly that the two centre halves were out to rough Codger and Davies up, the shirt pulling, grabbing, holding on was a joke. I've seen less contact in a rugby maul. He got pretty much everything wrong, apart from the penalty. I'll need to see Taylors tackle back but from where I was and not paying that much attention, it looked like a joke decision.

As for today, not great, not pretty, and quite lethargic. Thought Codger was sloppy, work rate not there and made some stupid decisions. I do love the guy but he needs a bollocking for today he should've squared that ball to Adomah just before the peno.

We tired big time second half particularly Davies, Snoddy & Whelan which for me is down to the strikers not working hard enough and not getting the ball down enough in the second half.

It's a results business, and a wins a win.

Credit to the 1k Bolton fans, not known for being noisy supporters but I thought they were quality today considering they have to watch that shit week in, week out.

Another three points in spite of a referee who thought he was officiating at a rugby match.
It was a bit slow and plodding at times but Bolton clearly came to frustrate and intimidate.
When we upped the intensity we looked threatening.
If those three points help to get us up I won't remember how we got them.

At the end of the season we may well look back on today as a vital win.
Bolton came and did the only thing they had the option to do which was WWF approach. Teams aren't just going to roll over for us .
We just need to grind out the wins over and over .

5 points off the top of the table..... 5 points!

Another snooze break, then back to the bread and butter. It's not looking too bad after an unimpressive start. We can go on from here.

I never had the feeling that we'd stuff them, so I'll happily take a 1-0 win and another three points. I'd take a draw against Wolves if it means we beat Fulham and Blues after but all I know is that I'm excited for the next game. Very happy with Bruce and the team at the moment, long may it continue.

Agree, thats a massive 3 points was a true banana skin. Very nearly ended up being just that, how they didn't score at the end i'll never know.

Nice to see a player come on and put his body on the line - literally. I took the piss about resigning Samba but he'll do what hes told to and do it well (from the bench).

It's easy to come on here after every game and say that was the worst ref we've ever seen but that guy today was awful throughout the game. I'm not sure about the red card, I didn't think it looked bad, he went in a bit 2 footed but it didn't look dangerous although it could have looked worse on the pitch compared to from the upper holte - but judging by how bad the ref was I think it's safe to assume it was the wrong decision

Kodjia's decision to shoot instead of pass was terrible, had we failed to score today he'd have cost us, there are no excuses for that selfishness.

On a positive note, another win which is great and we dominated Bolton for pretty much the entire game. Let's hope it continues for the next game

That referee was shocking today and ruined the game with the way he let Bolton's centre halves manhandle our forwards. The red card looked a sit decision as well from where I was. Pleased with the 3 points though.

I think Taylor is always going to be treated differently now after that unfortunate Coleman incident .
Hopefully we win the appeal but we rarely get anything out of the FA .

The holding of kodja and davis was ridiculous. Please tell me taylor shouldn't have been sent off. We are solid at the back but how easily we give the ball away . We have had a great run and still not in the top 6. There are 35 games left and we need to win 20 . I was warned about that ref before hand .
