automatically promoted teams for the last 5 yrs + end up at ~ 90 pts - I guess those that get promoted averaging 2 pts per game didn't find it too hard

6 pts from the next two to make up the ground we've lost so far

Agree with this.

I've long maintained that if you can average two goals a game across the season, you won't be far off winning whatever League you are in. Scoring twice every match would likely produce around two points per game, maybe enough to win the League, probably enough to see you up and certainly into the top 4-6. Enough for the play-offs, or maybe even Europe in the Prem.

It's really not rocket science: goals win matches. Score enough, and you'll do OK. No one is saying we need to be like Keegan-era Newcastle (although I'd give almost anything for that kind of entertainment). But we just need to score more goals. And without doubt, we have the players to that now.

Kodjia. Adomah. Snodgrass. Hourihane. We also have Hogan, Green , Grealish and McCormack (although he's not currently with us) to tap into. Chester and Terry know where the goal is. Davis and Green have plenty of potential. There is no reason that we can't score the required number of goals to get "there or thereabouts" as Steve would have us.

Welcome to Krakow VillaTom - too much of a hangover from Buddha's last night so watching the game on a stream - otherwise would have helped you out.

Tbf I didn’t think I’d be able to see a championship game outside the uk so easily. Can’t remember the name of where I was last night but had plenty of (cheap) vodka shots!

Villa games are quite often available to certain packages in DE,PL and others

Onomah can pass it forwards as well, anyway a win is a win

Not today though.
Difficult coming on when he did but he was atrocious today.

Perhaps SB trying to shut up shop again, shackles on

Chester: 7 - fine. Part of a shambles for their equaliser.

Snodgrass: 7 - can be frustrating but looks like he can make things happen. Standard for a winger really.

Chester had a quality first half, made some great tackles and then is completely caught on the goal. Im not convinced Chester is the partner JT needs in a team to get us promoted. If we want to go up we'll have to be ruthless and I think we need another quality centre back.

As for Snodgrass, I think he's still unfit as he looks a unit but I'm sure in a few games he won't be blowing as much. What Snodgrass is doing well, is he's helping Elmo at right back and putting a shift in defensively. Not why we bought him, but the sort of thing you need or you conceded 2 games per game

Well we won, so that has to be a good thing but it was a lot harder work than it really should have been.

We should have been out of site at half time, but yet again, squandered good chances and yet again decided we were far too good for the likes of Forest and didnt need to bother working, thus letting them back into it.

Fair play though, we then decided to take it seriously and got another quickly and looked comfortable and probable we would go and get a third.

Hence, he decided that 442 is not his preferred formation after all, took off our strikers even though Snodgrass was dead on his feet, and subsequently hung on for life until the ref put us all out of our misery.

Chuffed with win yes but it just feels so last year at the moment. Put a run of unconvincing wins together and then liable to lose 3 or 4.

This team is capable of steam rollering these teams and I want us to look like that.

Motm - Adomah but again, we owe tge 3 points to Johnstone who kept us in it ( at 1 1 he blocked that one , which looked a certain goal).

Need 6 point more by 5pm Saturday.

3 points is all that I care about right now. And the next 3, and the 3 after that.

Snodgrass is either unfit or plain shit. He bottled every challenge in the first half and did not apply himself at all in the second - and Forest knew it and sent everything down our left to expose him which they did.

Hogan cannot lead the line by himself, I wish Bruce would fucking wake up and see it.

A part from his deflected goal at Bristol , no sure what he's done ?
Doesn't seem to have the positional discipline to play in a central 2 midfield and pushed up front today he couldn't lace KD's boots .
Certainly won't oust Whelan or Jedi as a defensive mid and hasn't got the positional discipline to oust Hourihane who I though had his best game for us yesterday got stuck in for the first time . If he keeps that up I'll start to like him

He is young and came from Spurs. That gets him big bonus points on the David Beckham Scale of Footballing Hype. Perhaps there is more to him than we've seen so far?

It is his preferred formation and he has said so before the game and after.

He took Davis off as he was ill before the game and is carrying a knock. Kodjia needs to be nursed back in carefully hence taken off but with a little bit extra game time to build up.

Given the fact we won and regardless of the manner we saw the game out the manager got it correct in my humble.

This is what I thought . I doubt many wlll agree but .......

Johnstone . solid pulled off a couple of game winning saves , long time since a Villa keeper has done that. Kicking was poor .8
Elmo . He was ok , I'm really not sure about him as a fullback . Nothing wrong with him yesterday though 6
Chester . Best I've seen him first half really played well . Second half reverted to the player I see most weeks . 7

Terry. Outshone by Chester first half but can't recall him breaking sweat all game, comfortable 7

Taylor . Another who was excellent first half not so good second 7

Snoddy. He was ok not sure why our keeper hits him with high balls is a mystery. Struggled second half and should have been subbed earlier . 6

Whelan . Some good stuff some shocking stuff , the jedi will be back soon 6

Hourihane. Though he has his best all round game for us . Got a foot in and took his goal well , keeper gave him the chance but he took it well. 8

Albert . Ran them ragged first half and a finish gabby could only dream about, second half I forgot he was playing as they shut him down or was it he that was on the far side of the pitch to me second half. 7

Koj. Set up the first goal and won the free kick for the second , Such a frustrating player to watch , if only he could lay it off sometimes we'd scored more goals 8

KD. Getting more confident by the game , even trying a few tricks now , Christian who ? 8

Subs Onomah . Pretty shocking , caught in possession numerous time well off the pace 4
Hogan . Feel for this lad , can't play up on his own and Bruce keeps putting him there 5.
Scottish Cafu at least woke the Holte end up! Not on long enough to rate you either love him
or hate him.

Speaking of fans , it was actually like a library yesterday . Forest fans woke up for 10 mins second half . I guess the truth is we are happy as we won but there really wasn't much to get excited about watching Forest is like watching paint drying , . The game mostly consisted of Forest keep ball across the back four and Goalkeeper and us jogging about waiting for them to give us the ball so we could break . Which they did , They played into our hands .

Delighted with the win, I don't mind winning scruffy every week if it gets us promoted.

I thought we controlled the first half and Forest had very little to offer. Then yet again a lapse in concentration put the pressure right back early in the second. But at least we have some resilience now, a few seasons ago if we let in one goal we'd capitulate.

Thought the substitution in the 2nd half was a negative one but hey, we won

Adomah: 8 MOTM - another good showing. Why on earth he was left out so long I don not know.

I guess re Uncle Albert, it could be argued leaving him out has given him the jolt needed to realise he's not an automatic choice, anyone can be dropped. He's been so much better and more consistent since his return.

I've got nothing against winning scruffy but the problem is no one wins scruffy every week. Everyone last season said we can't go on relying on either luck or Kodjia producing some magic to get promotion yet nothing appears to have changed.

If we're going to build from this and start to actually start taking the game to opponents then great but if that was what we're going to be trying to do week in week out then I can't see us going up.
