Too right I couldn’t be arsed to go, £15 on Tuesday night against Middlesbrough to watch the reserves? Season ticket holders usually get in free at Walsall to watch them.

I was just glad someone scored . I had visions of extra time , penalties and not getting home until midnight.

I have to thank Elphick I suppose if it wasn't for him they could still be playing and it would be 0-0

Clearly, people having a different opinion from you bothers you more than you let on otherwise you wouldn't go to the lengths of writing all that little lot down. Maybe I should have included sarcasm as well because that's a theme you also use. :14:

Wow, don't really know why you are getting personal when you have no clue about me at all. Yeah I maybe a bit sarcastic at times, but am I alone in that on here?. Nah. And in any case you are clearly really bothered by what I say so no point going on is there?. Gonna get boring .

On paper it wasn't a bad line-up. Think what the match showed (again) was that three of the players that Bruce bought in January, Lansbury, Hogan and Bjarnason, haven't been effective under Bruce. A fourth, Bree, was left on the bench. You can argue why. A possible reason is that Bruce can only do it with players of the experience and character to go out there and do it on their own, rather than needing the right team structure to flourish, and that's why he wants players who have done it for him in the past.

It should be pretty obvious by now that Hogan can't lead the line on his own. So why try it? It's possible (don't know) that McCormack would be better up front, which is why I suggested that, with Hogan and O'Hare playing on the wings.

Whatever, disappointing; people will have their own take. For some it re-inforces doubts about Bruce, for some doubts about the players. But we move on. Three matches coming up which are likely to decide Bruce's fate, and the size of the hurdle we are facing this season.

How many of these " non-performances " are acceptable though under one Manager ?

I sort of accepted it in the Prem as the players weren't good enough, but now it happens against Brentford and Boro reserves.

The list is quite extensive under this Manager, with his players too.

To regenerate interest in this cup they really should allow people watch it. I know that sounds crazy but if they sold the rights to the games in blocks and showed a wide array of games it would start generating interest again. Last night we had Liverpool's game. Tonight Man Ure's. Next round it'll be Man Ure's again and Chelsea's. Sky have the rights and show very little of it. Let sky have their pick maybe and other channels can squabble over the rest. More interest from fans = more pressure for teams to win = more teams showing a bit more respect to the competition. Would be a decent advertisement for the competition as well and even though the games are on TV it could still mean bigger gates as people will be more excited about it. The apathy from Villa fans last night was palpable on social media and beyond.

As for Villa's performance...meh. Moving on.

You could add Hourihane to that list as Hattrick in one game aside wtf has he done ? Also Taylor is a very average left back

In fact most of his signings have been overshadowed by Davis ,Green and now the returning Adomah

Green is far from overshadowing anyone.

Not knocking the kid but he personifies the inconsistancy of a young player.

100% he should stay and not go the way of others like Super Marc but flashes here and there are all there is at the moment.

Davis though, bloody brilliant, although wouldn't be surprised if at some point he drops a bit. Again its a young player thing.

All players have off days Melon not just the young ones , Hourihane has only had one on day since he signed , same has Hogan , Lansbury has been total pants none of them are 19 and all cost good money .

I'm kinda changed on Hourihane. Really couldnt see the point but since Reading away he has improved. Also I have read that he is a big one for staying on after training doing extra stuff which is good.

Nobody who started for Boro last night started in their previous game vs QPR. Boro U23 also played last night. Bruce can say what he likes but the fact is he served up another load of dross.

And in 50 years I can't remember an attendance in the 11,000s. I remember a couple of 12s ... Maybe SB is gunning for the Besiktas record

You cant have your cake and eat it, I was decried for wanting the team last night to be the team that started against and won at Barnsley but other on here wanted players rested for the Championship.....

Get a winning team and stick with it save Injuries the team will be made up of players who are on top of their game. The only lesson learned by picking last nights 11 is that they are for the most part pretty fucking shyte. Aston Villa have absolutely devalued the competition, Villa were the first winners of and have been in the League Cup Final eight times.

A shameful way to treat the supporters too........... Most opinions I have read say leaving the ground was the highlight of the game.

How fantastic is Bruce going to look when the 11 players starting against Forest get played of the park after their weeks rest.

Just looking at the league cup results today notably the premier league teams versus the EFL teams. Without seeing the teams which I assume the big boys out our reserves and the EFL clubs a mixture, the results show the huge gulf between the leagues which is why we should easily be in the top 25% of teams I.e. In the playoffs and also highlights the fact if we did manage to go up even with the strongest squad in the league I think we'd struggle as it stands.

I hope if we can go up this season or next we invest big time.
