Steer,

Hutton (only because I don't want him playing league game on Friday)
De Laet (at centre back)
Samba
Barney
(Senior enough defence)

Whelan (playing jedi on Friday)
Elmo
Lansbury
Adomah

O'Hare
Hogan/RHM

Few kids on the bench to either get a run out if we're winning or save us if we're not. This kinda illustrates the lack of cover in centre back if and when Chester and Terry are injured/ rested

Re CB don't forget we still have elphick and Richards .
Players like this should be played and made to earn some of their wages FFS

Getting there is the point Silhill and I don't appreciate the condisending tone. All opinions are valid on here, just because it doesn't match yours doesn't make you right.

Hi Merd, nothing personal mate we are all just debating an interesting topic . Ultimately we aren't winning this cup or the fa cup so we have to think strategically about the ultimate goal of promotion this season . The likes of whelan , Chester, Terry really don't need to play tomorrow vs Wigan , we need them fresh as daisies for a very tough game in Bristol on Friday .

Wouldn't want to cup tie them though, if there's teams interested in taking them then we don't need a reason to put them off. But if there was no interest in Elphick, stick him in. But after the transfer window and they're still there then absolutely make them earn it.

Agreed, upto four changes - Jedi needs a game, O'Hare must come back in, but I referred to MON's time chasing top four and loads of people state that as the start of the decline - after the next match against Stoke we were never the same again.

We will never all agree on every issue as we are all individuals with very different experiences. There is no way to prove either of our theories to be correct and I get just as pee'd off with those not giving 100% to the cause. FWIW I think Elphick would love to play and don't hold any grudge against him, he just didn't work out for whatever reason. I hope he finds a club but I can't see that playing him adds any value if he is not in the manager's plans, just stops someone else getting game time. We need to be acting agressively and searching for the right answers, right combinations - Bruce has been far too passive for me and relying totally on experience. He fell across Keinan Davis on Saturday, Callum O'Hare in the last round of the cup.

We should embrace the cup as it gives us free games to find the right combinations. Winners have one thing in common, they believe they can win, otherwise, why compete?

You were the one with the condescending tone saying anyone who thought otherwise to yourself "needs to lie down"

You can disagree with others without trying to disrespect them or their opinions, especially when it's not even a ridiculous suggestion to rest players for a cup game which isn't a priority when we have a big game in a few days time.

Oh and there's a difference between intentionally getting knocked out of the latter rounds of a major European tournament and resting players for the early rounds of the league cup

The cska away game under MON was a different scenario entirely. We could of won than trophy, he threw the towel in spectacular fashion. I wasn't happy with that one .

I don't think anyone wants to throw the game, I just think most of us would agree the Friday game is much more important and some of us are more wary than others about playing important players in games like this one

I get the point about resting some senior players like JT, and also putting in players like O'Hare, but I think it is vital we start building confidence and a winning mentality. Making 8 or 9 changes is not the way to do that. I just want us to win and to get used to winning.

Why do people keep picking Lyden?

Jake Hayes has shown more in 3 cameos than Lyden has in 3 years.

I know he's had his injury problems, and I feel sorry for him on that score but I've never seen anything to suggest he's going to make it here.

Hayes on the other hand....

We don't need to rest players IMHO, we need to build a team rather than a bunch of individuals seemingly unaware of a team plan. We started to look like a team on Saturday so why break up partnerships now? For me it's nothing to do with the value of the cup (although I'd like to see us go as far as possible) it's about building a team rather than sending out a bunch of strangers. It's also about momentum and confidence so I'd keep as many partnerships that worked on Saturday going as long as possible.

Lyden did show promise as a player capable of playing a defensive utility role, mainly to gain match experience.
I saw enough of him to think that eventually, he will become a very capable defensive midfielder, if handled in the right way.
As he's not long recovered from injury, I think a run of cup games would be ideal to get him back into the swing of playing competitive football.
The early rounds of cup competitions are best used to give squad players and promising youth players game time, then it's not such a big step up when, if, they are asked to play a league game.
We have a squad, it is the height of stupidity, in my opinion, not to utilise them.
Not using his squad was Mon's biggest mistake, I think.
