Thor's goal is a lesson for anyone in the opponents area.
He didn't stand back to see if the ball would get through to him, he went to meet the ball, getting free of his marker, who was actually a yard in front of him.
A goal that should be shown to the strikers and forward midfield players, not forgetting our defenders, time and time again.
Overall a very pleasing game. Now all that's needed is to keep it going. Please don't go back to the previous, even when we lose a game.

Enjoyed that and a decent performance. Bruce needs to find a way to play Hogan. Good performances from Bree at centre half and De Laet. Thor also had a good game.

For a change i was never worried lol. Roll on Friday.

Hogan played a part aswell letting the ball run through to Thor, who probably gave him a shout.

I could not be happier!

breath of fresh f*****g air the last two matches. I told Bruce 'we like this Brucie' and he came over and talked! He said always nice when winning, I said nah, it's the whole attitude and going forward and all that, we've been starved of it for years

Yes Fear, tell him that playing attacking football does two things.
One, attack is the best form of defence.
Two, attacking football is the way to get 40.000+ into the ground every home game.

I am so happy at last, 4 goals in successive games, previous top scorer nowhere to be seen. A sea change in the way we played so you can look at it two ways, either the penny finally dropped with SB, or all of a sudden his negative tactics have proved successful. I go with the first theory - long may it last. When did Villa last score 4 goals in consecutive games ...... the answer is

FH Hafnarfjordur v Aston Villa 14Aug2008 1-4
Aston Villa v Manchester City 17Aug2008 4-2

So over 9 years ago

Maybe the shackles are off

Really enjoyed that. The great thing was that despite 11 changes the team approached the game with the same attitude as Saturday, aggressive and always looking to go forward.
All the youngsters looked great, particular praise should go to Mitchell Clark as he's not a left back. His uncle used to work with me and he was always going on about how good this lad is. Looked really confident going forward and tigerish in defence. Lightning quick as well. Everyone played well, de Laet looks like a good version of Hutton and Thor had by far his best game for us. I can think of a few players we've had in recent years who wouldn't be straining every sinew to get on the end of a cross in the league cup second round vs Wigan when we're already 3-1 up.
Just a really good evening with some great goals, good football and some exciting youngsters who will hopefully play a big part for us in coming years. Free as well!! More please Mr Bruce.

Bloody typical! Just when Villa cut loose and the kids show their class I have to take her indoors for an anniversary dinner.
I'm loving reading the positive stuff on this thread.

Really enjoyable watching that tonight, we certainly have some top-quality kids coming through!

I don't think anything would make me happier than these 2 matches being a turning point - maybe even not just for this season, but as the beginning of our long journey to get back to where we should be. That might sound ridiculous but, looking at how well some of the youth team players are playing, it looks as though we have a bright future.
