Most managers would be careful placing too much responsibility on a young player so don't be too surprised if he is rested.

I won't be at all surprised if he is 'rested'.

But for me, it's not a question of responsibility, it's more a matter of confidence - the boy has played exceptionally well, he's young and fit, so let him go for it. He should be told that he has the shirt, and it is for Flabby and Hogan to try and get it back.

Completely agree JPA

The kid has had the game of his life and is going to be raring to go again. He deserves his chance, and as you said the shirt should be his now until the others can step up. I'm tired of this protecting the young players thing that we've seen for so long with our young lads. The fans are not going to get on their backs if they have a bad game. And what would affect his confidence more, having a bad game or getting dropped off the back of his best ever game?

Exactly SJH.

Wait until he's off colour and then 'rest' him. No one is saying he;s the next Lionel Messi, but the lad has played a great game, so give him the confidence to go out and do it again, for a run of games.

Wigan and Bristol City should give him that opportunity.

I think it would send the wrong message entirely if he didn't start vs Bristol for any reason other than Injury. That it doesn't matter how well you play, only price tag and experience matter.
Hopefully we've seen the last of Hutton in a villa shirt, complete embarrassment of a performance. It's almost impossible that Bree or De Laet could be worse than him defensively.

Well when these young players break through managers often take it easy with them. I remember Rashford being looked after when he first broke through. I trust the experience of the manager to know if he should play or not.

I wonder after today's performance by Davis will Bruce still go ahead with the Gallagher loan? Would it not be better to progress our own player instead of another teams? With kodija coming back and Hogan / RHM in the wings .... and to a lesser extent Gabby...maybe he could look into the defence getting strengthened. if Chester gets injured, it'll be Terry and samba in defence, a pacy striker would have a field day against them! Delighted with today's result - I did think that one team could be in for a hammering if our players clicked

It's true Wurzel, that is usually the case.

But when Rashford broke through, were the other strikers at Utd in rubbish form? They could afford to rest him.

Our situation is different. Davis had an impact today that I haven't seen in a long time. Whether he's 19 or 29 he deserves to start the next game for that alone.

Well United were in a poor position for them tbh, nothing compared to us of course. I'm not saying I wouldn't play him, just that managers have to consider what is in the players interest as well.

I'd like to see Bruce tell Davis, you get the first half, play your life out but then lad you're getting a rest. The only reason you stay on is if your on for a hattrick.

I'd also like to see Bruce tell Hogan...take your chances in the second half.

With a shoutout to midfield, create some fucking chances for him.

Indeed.

He tries hard by and large, and it's probably hard to argue with his commitment. But unfortunately, he just ain't very good

It's no surprise that the continuing involvement of two of the remaining 'survivors' of our relegation squad (Hutton and Gabby) are probably among the most frequent discussions on here.

And their is reasonable evidence to suggest that their involvement is holding us back.

just that managers have to consider what is in the players interest as well.

Agreed, but in the interests of how many youngsters would it be to 'rest' them when they've just produced arguably their best performance?

I'm normally a fan of Hutton, for the championship good he is usually good enough and you can rarely question is attitude. However the last couple of games he has been very poor. We have 3 right backs at the club (4 if you include Richards who inexplicably still has a contract) so it would make sense for one of them to be moved on. Assuming Bree is for the longer term that leaves either De Laet and Hutton as possibly surplus to requirements

Wow. We won a match! I've just seen the highlights. What a difference it makes when Gabby doesn't start. The young lad Davis looked incredible. Great work by Green too. And a hat trick by a midfielder! Unbelievable, Jeff.

I've been a supporter of Bruce so far but I'll have serious doubts about him if he changes a winning team.
