wittonite - 20/8/2017 12:10

Sorry Erod and TH I missed the midfielder bit, Sunday morning eyes.
Yes TH I remember that old score board I think the letters corresponed to the letters in the programme with the relevant game against them. Or hasmy ageing memory got it wrong.

You are right about the letters wittonite, pity Alan Deakin missed a sitter in the last minute to make it 5-6
I went to the reserve games if I couldn't travel and as you say all eyes were on letter A for the Villa score. Amazing not even any radio to get scores although radio did give the half time scores.

By the way - impressive memory BBJ!

Thanks but it was just an educated guess.
And you found chapter and verse for us!

The only worry yesterday was how easily Norwich score two soft goals , I'm guessing JT played them onside for both goals although Hutton will get blamed for the first .

We need to sort out who is in charge at the back , The keeper or JT. Second goal Terry and Taylor dropped deep and Chester pushed out .

Good job the goals flowed at the other end

I know it wasn't technically a debut but what a debut !!!!

It says everything that a midfielder gets a hat trick and still isn't motm. That was an utter unbelievable display from him - still buzzing about it. From the moment I saw Grealish, I thought "just can't see what all this fuss is about", but this kid, at his age, jesus, if he gets his head down and works, the world could be his oyster - looked like Benteke at his best !.

Still worried about the defence, I honestly think Chester is a weak link, I don't think Terry is commanding like he used to (when the second went in, they all, inc. him just turned and walked back to the circle without a word to each other). I am going to give Hutton some slack because I wonder how much that challenge took it out of him. That was a red card, and he was alright up until that.

Johnstone - nowt wrong 6

Hutton - thraped after that challenge, but it was a hefty one - 3
Chester - still gets beat easily, and missed another sitter - 4
Terry - OKish, but where is this on field bully - 4
Taylor - Not a lot wrong, could have seen a card for a reckless challenge - 5

Onomah - looked brilliant until he had to go, him and KD worked well together - 7
Hourihane - what can you say really - 8
Lansbury - I still don't think he does anywhere near enough - 4
Whelan - his best game by a mile and what I thought we had bought - 6
Green - he's got a sqaure head, change that, world at his feet - 7

Davis - I can only remember one other debut like that , Petrov (mind you, he was crap for the next 18 months !) - totally unplayable and I was annoyed he was taken off - he would have scored as he would have been where Green was - 9

Things that need improving (defensively especially) but so so so much better, a win on Friday and we can maybe forget about the last week or so. There is no better feeling in this world than belting out "Don't Look Back In Anger" at Villa Park is there !

Without putting the world on his shoulders it was more like a Lukaku performance because Benteke doesnt have that pace whereas Lukaku still has the strength, hassle the backline and can go past guys. Agree with all the rest if he can reproduce that semi consistently and keeps his head we've got a player.

I also love your ratings always loaded with bias. A midfielder scores a hattrick does little wrong but only gets an 8. Backline are a bit iffy but get 4s classic stuff.

I would like to think we have seen the last of Hutton & Gabby in villa shirts.
Watching that display of effort and determination yesterday from Davis just underlined and emphasised how much Gabby has been taking the piss and phoning it in for years.

If Bruce can't see that he is mental .

A better showing and the fans will expect the same level of commitment from now on. Maybe Norwich were having a bad day at the office but Villa punished them and had a proper go at them. Davis was a constant thorn in their side, pace, quick feet, and with time he will take the chances in front of goal. I hope we don't put too much pressure on the young man or expect too much of him so soon. The bar has been set and the players have proved that they can perform to a level we should be expecting from professionals wearing the colours of Aston Villa, a club with a great history and heritage, a club still regarded as being one the best in the country. We have the best training facilities, a fantastic stadium, a terrific and loyal huge fanbase - all the ingredients needed to provide our players with the stage to showcase what they can do. But it is just one game, and a return to ineptitude and lacklustre ways will not be tolerated. No one expects us to go on and beat everyone by the same kind of scorelines all season - this is a very tough league and we will suffer defeats along the way, but if the attitude and professionalism is there then we can maybe look forward to a serious tilt at promotion back to The Premier League.

Watched the goals again earlier.

Hourihane's third goal was a sublime finish.

Fantastic start JF when the keeper is man of the match on three occasions.
Onwards and upwards. Up the Villa
