Cannot get my head around giving Barry stick for leaving us or signing for the baggies. Barry gave us 10 years of pretty decent service. Oh for a player with his professionalism with us now.

Get a grip.

Always completely bemused me how, they were close together when the moves happened, Barry got booed and Milner who rocked up for a couple of years then pissed off to City got cheered.

And can people who are banging on about Barry going to baggies just clarify their positions on Withe, Bremner, Morley, Mcnaught, Saunders and Brian Little.

The Milner comparison is a good one but I prefer the Mellberg comparison.

Barry -

Signed for peanuts
Gave us 11 good years
Left for a bigger club to win trophies
Made us a big hefty profit

Mellberg -

Signed for £5 million
Played for 7 years
Left for a pay day
left for free meaning a £5 million loss.

Barry gets booed, Mellberg gets cheered.... coz he bought the fans a few shirts.

To be clear I'm not slating Mellberg. I love them both. But it just goes to show how wierd fans are.

There's some irony here.

If we were still in the Prem I'm sure he'd have "come home".

But if we were still in the Prem, people (like me!) would have been saying he's too old/slow/etc

For this division though, would have fitted right in to our team of over 35s. Maybe we'll relive our Victorian glory days, but this time in walking football?

Footballers are a commodity, we buy and ship them out on a regular basis when we don't want them. I'll happily admit I was pretty venomous towards him when he came back to VP for Citeh, but actually it was the biggest backhanded compliment I could pay him because he was without doubt my favourite player for nearly a decade.

Fair play to him for going for the record, he'll hold the record for decades I'm sure so to have the premier league appearance record holder who made most appearances at AVFC is something we'll grow to be proud of.

Would have preferred him back here to Whelan in an ideal world but seeing as he wants the PL appearance record fair play to him.

Like I said, he could have gone to numerous so called PL clubs and achieved his PL record, shame he chose tesco bags cos I am sure he didn't have to. It also shows that Koeman doesn't do sentiment. Pity we don't have a Koeman.

Lets be honest, someone of Barry's status would certainly have reservations about coming 'home' with the state we're in again.

The only thing that really pisses me off is the fact that it gives Pulis a bit more ammunition.....

Oh come on grow up, he's got a family to think about too.

I'm sure he's more interested in doing the right thing for them rather than upsetting a few precious Villa fans.

He knows the area, his family know the area, they obviously like the area and have decided to go back.

You think he's gonna choose Newcastle or Brighton and spend a year settling in an unfamiliar area just so you don't get your knickers in a twist?

The move makes sense for him, so fair play.

If you re-read both his posts on the subject you'll realise you've been a bit harsh in your 'grow up' and 'knickers in a twist' comments. At most he was expressing a personal preference that it wasn't the Baggies, and to be fair you expressed a similar preference for it not being Blues.
My personal opinion is good luck to the bloke, would also prefer it not to have been Albion as Pulis will no doubt reference us and our demise in a 'gloat-itious' way.

Gone to a club in the Prem to get the premiership appearance record. Makes no difference to us what so ever. West Brom are in a different league and a different class than us at the moment. Lets keep our eyes on our own homework shall we and I'll happily congratulate Barry when he breaks the record. I haven't thought about the Baggies once since we went down.

How many years ago did he leave?

Think it's time some people moved on.

Took the words out of my mouth... well text out of my post.

Completely agree with your post, reality is West Brom have been pride of the West Midlands for probably a half a decade now if not more and the don't have a lot of competition.

Barry signed a 12 month deal with WBA.

He had a two year deal on offer at Everton.

He choose them over increased game time to get the record.

Simples.

I can't believe some fans are slating Barry. He's an absolute legend and stayed with us until he realised we were going nowhere despite empty promises. I hope he does well there and finishes his career with the record in the bag,.

"Pride of the west midlands for half a decade" ?
They finished 8th,17th,13th,14th and 10th.

Christ, west midlands football really is shite if they`re the pride. They`ve won **** all since 1968.They might be the best football team in the west mids at the moment, but they are pride of nothing.
Tin pot club who find themselves in the very rare position of top flight football and no Aston Villa to compete with.
