Xia has already said, after the Hull game, that we haven't solved the problems we thought we had. Spot on. He won't let it drift.

Is Melberg ready? - he started his managerial career quite promisingly with a promotion. Ultimately, if you are good enough you will succeed. Surround him with good people like Sir Brian and a good coaching staff.

I can also never understand why managers are allowed to drag their coaching staff from the club that they ultimately got the sack from - happens so often. In reality we do need to start something radical and the international break is coming up. Can't believe that people on here nailed their flag to the post stating that it was "about time we had a proper football man in charge". Sounds suspiciously like somfink 'arry would say from the sty.

We are not there yet though but he has to come up with some results before the international break. In his interview for WM he is under no illusion that this is a results based business and fully understands the consequences.

Don't fuck about , if we lose on Tuesday we will be in the bottom 6 , utterly unacceptable with the players we have. Dont kid yourself, we should easily make top 6 with our squad.
Bruce is shot .

Excuse me - we are already in the bottom 4, I fail to see how a loss at Reading will worsen the situation and get us into the bottom six. A loss at Reading could see us rock bottom.

That Sunderland sacking article is seriously frightening.

I know some people are of the opinion that Calderwood might be at fault here and there's a section in that article that talks about how Bruce doesn't actually conduct training and leaves it to his assistant. At Sunderland this was f***ing Eric Black! No wonder that team ended up so bad.

They even quote him in that article, from a previous press conference, saying that he's "not much of a tactics man".

So if he doesn't "do tactics" and he doesn't coach his team, what the hell does he do?

I hate the managerial merry-go-round but I think Bruce is done. We need to stop getting managers because they got promotion from this division before; it doesn't mean they'll do it again. We need an actual football manager.

Worrying times...

I must admit that the Cardiff result has really taken the wind out of my sails and I am seriously questioning Bruce's on-going viability in his current role.

I have however, seen improvement from last year and maybe that Cardiff result will stiffen resolve and stop any complacency. I guess time will tell.

I don't think that it is as simple as finding a scapegoat either. The current predicament was years in the making and will take time to resolve fully. I wouldn't like to be the big man making these decisions at the moment, because pandering to the whims of a fan base will be the death of us. I have said it elsewhere and will say it again here, Tuesday night will show us whether the team has given up on Bruce - which I don't think is the case. But if we put in the same kind of disjointed performance, it may confirm everyone's fears that Bruce and his staff are not up to the job. Either way, the style of play, together with the result will go a long way to deciding Bruce's future. He needs to be adventurous and he needs a performance.

Looks like he was having all the same problems at sunderland and did not know how to fix it so to me Bruce is to blame . So it's not looking good for us. But who do you bring in next we have tried young , old , foreign , experienced, inexperienced and non have worked.

Good question MikeyVV
A certain Brian Clough was the same. But he couldn't half motivate them.

When was the last time we had a player or players who could actually influence and dictate a game?
Something like the role Dennis Mortimer enjoyed doing for use with the help of Des Bremner doing the donkey work

I can't imagine any of the current team being able to even tie up the boot laces of those two yet alone perform like that.

It's strange though that every team we seem to play in this league has someone In the midfield who I've never heard of before and who completely dictates the game against us as our lot just huff and puff and watch as the game passes them by.

I think we have an awful lot of players ( particularly midfielders) who are nowhere near as good as they think they are as they amble and ponce around the pitch waiting for things to happen rather than creating them and they seem more concerned and happy to pick up their silly wages each month under false pretenses than play with some pride for each other as team-mates.

Time for Bruce & Co to get their act together and sort this mess out or be shipped right out of the club themselves ASAP and get some management in who have a plan, don't make it up as they go along and are able to get some shape and pattern of play into this lot.

Who knows, the players might even start to enjoy their football again!?

Depends if you're looking for good football or not, ask the Boro fans what they think of him, it's almost universally negative now!

One name missing there (although ultimately this would still be Bruce's fault).

Bruce came in. Performances werent great but determination and hard work got him results.

Then, for some unearthly reason he decided to bring back someone into the fold.......Gabby. The guy who was banished from the club for taking the pee out the club and only caring about hos wage packet.

And we got worse and worse and worse.

We then have Saturday and Steve Vruce saying "defeat doesnt hurt as much as it should for some players"

No shit Sherlock !!!!!.

Don't get me wrong. Gabby is not the only one who was crap on Saturday, but you let one rotten apple take the pee and the rest will follow.

Many people on here said "Gabby will see off another manager"

And the weird thing is , Bruce is the only person who either cant see it, or has no power over it.

TBH mate I couldn't care less what his footballs like right now it's getting out of this league that bothers me now and he managed to turn Boro round who were an even bigger mess than we was.

Duncan Hamilton's Provided You Don't Kiss Me is my favourite.

It's 100% Bruce. We did alright when he came in, steadied the ship...... then brought in calderwood and we got worse. "Clem" didn't strike me as a particularly good coach either. Watching other teams play they are able to pass the ball to a player in the same jersey as them...a skill villa seem to lack. But we're SO easy too play against. Tactics against us- put players under pressure and don't let them have time on the ball, they'll panic and make mistakes. Villas tactics - give it to kodija and hope for the best. That's down to Bruce. He says he doesn't know how to stop the rot, step aside.
