Actually not one jot. Sadly my nostalgic days pre date Sherwood/Mon by many a year.

I'd go back to GT, Ron, Little and JG myself.

At least those with long memories have had some fun out of the club at least!

Sherwood was/is a shocking manager couldn't even cut it at mighty Swindon Town , calls for him to return are laughable

Yes I agree. Just no no no to Sherwood.

I still haven't got over the Leicester away debacle yet.

When I think of Sherwood I remember being 2-0 up away at Leicester where we should've killed the game, one crap sub and no tactical and we lose the game 3-2... it all happened after that, Leicester win the league, Vardy goes on that ridiculous run and we get Leicester.

All because Sherwood is a simple manager like SB whilst Ray Wilkins was probably topped up with whisky when TS needed a bit of help.

I loved Sherwoods attitude, but he's in the same category as Stuart Pearce for me - you can be as passionate as you like which all the pundits love but that only gets you so far, you need the brains as well to get those incremental points when it matters.

His management of Villa is dire in every way possible, he has turned decent players to muck, his style of play is school boys kick and rush rubbish, shambolic, nice guy but imho we are going nowhere with him...... but but but he got promoted 4 times and we need to stick with him etc.... not for me.

I don't disagree with much of what anyone is saying but take a step back and think about things before you call the guy clueless or inept. (this isnt aimed at any in particular it just seems to be a general thing).

Bruce could and I mean could be good for us but he's just not doing what has made him a success. How did he get promotion 4 times? I think everyone needs to ask themselves that and think about it for 5 minutes. Its not because he is a clueless lackwit with no tactical knowledge.

Right man, wrong time? Wrong Man, Wrong time? I dont know I do know given time he'll get us up but admittedly that could be in 5 years or somehow 9 months. He has it in him but for whatever reason he's lost the plot.

Each 'poor' manager we have chosen did not use the 'template for success' at our club they tried to pander to us and implement 'good football'. Of course none of them actually had experience with that so they didnt actually know how to implement a style where you get it on the ground and play. Most managers only know one way and they develop it over the years.

Look at Mourinho he largely plays 4231 with a strong dynamic CF, highly mobile hardworking midfielders with a little flair and a balanced back 4. Its almost the definition of an efficient system he's basically got Chelsea 2.0 going on there. Conte just recreated his Juve style last season but Bruce has gone away from that. Wenger seems one of the few who can evolve but look at the flack he gets.

Anyway point is if Bruce can get his head out of his arse I firmly believe he will take us up, he isnt a moron but if he doesnt get his head over the parapet and realise he has being making a massive mistake all along we're fucked.

And I go back to the last few months of Eric Houghton's reign.

Does anyone actually believe that just because a manager had some 'success' in the past, it will always be that way?

The odd thing is Bruce had a 9 out of 11 win rate against Warnock, so you would presume he knows how to set a team up to play against him. What has gone wrong? I hope he is not effected by the sauce a la Wilkins.

Manager Steve Bruce has been as honest as he ever has been since taking the Aston Villa job and our new signings do not escape blame as he reflects on the defeat to Cardiff City.

Given the choice between "I couldn't fault the lads" and what Bruce is saying, which is the opposite, I think I've marginally more respect for Lambert.

Living overseas I quite often miss a lot. What's Bruce like as a manager? That is to say, he seems fairly calm and soft spoken and was like that as a player. Behind the changing room doors does he dish it out like Fergie did or is he a soft touch?

Either way whatever he does is not having the desired effect.
