A centre back up front, maybe as an absolute last resort out of desperation when your chasing the game and you have no other options or ideas but as proper game plan then that's just embarrassing.

Too much emphasis being put on Samba going on for a few mins up front on Saturday in my opinion. How many times do see a team lumping it forward in the last few mins to get a result. Loads and loads

It was the 90th minute not the 70th. We were chasing a win. We were having succession of set pieces at this time, which were not producing anything. What's the problem with putting a 6ft plus beast of of man into try and sneek out a goal or opportunity in the last few seconds. Literally last throw of the dice in a game definitely ending in a draw. If we were fannying around passing and passing on the edge of the box I bet the cries of 'get it in the box' would be loud on the terraces. We were not exactly passing our way through were we.
What should he have done at that point. Put Bree, Hourihane or Thor on ?. Pretty obvious that Hull would not have wanted to have Samba, , Terry and Chester to deal with in box.

Yes you can debate whether the line up was wrong in the first place hence not winning the game at that point.
But that's not the debate. At that point in the game under those circumstances cannot see why so much fuss or emphasis. If we are winning it's not a valid option and I fully expect Bruce knows this. Samba upfront will not be an option unless these circs occur again.

Rediculous and embarrassing substitution. Samba spends best part of 6 months to earn a contract then gets thrown on up front with a minute left. Then Bruce trumpeting how good he was at Blackburn playing up front. Dinosaur tactics.

TBH I really can't see what all the fuss is about.

Jurgen Klopp puts a centre back up front when they are chasing a game all the time, I don't see anyone calling him embarrassing.

In fact, didn't our own manager cost us the league once when the greatest manager in history bunged him up top ?

Picking for pickings sake.

Like I said before Man Utd have done it , Chelsea have done it I think even Arsenal put Mertersaker up front once.

Brian Little started a European game with Ugo up front.

Last resort I know , but with time running out then you can't muck about trying to create a chance with 20 passes.

If we need Samba to provide height up front then surely we need to buy or borrow a genuine target man?

Bruce has since admitted that he should have brought Samba on earlier, so he isn't just going to be used as a "last minute" sub.
I like how SB admits he made a mistake in not bringing him on earlier but didn't think he was wrong in playing Bacuna and Lansbury.

To put on Samba with four minutes left was a desperate move but to take off another forward like Hogan earlier and leave on Agbonlahor for the whole game and who was blowing out of his arse after 45 minutes was nothing more than sheer stupidity.

Very wise words mate you should be the next manager

If you accept the post as the next victim TH it's a 9 month contract only. That's all you are allowed to turn around a football club on it's arse in every way it can possibly be.

I could always give big Ron a call and ask for some advice on how he managed to sort the team out after the disastrous spell under Jozef Venglos.

( Jozef Venglos 22 Jul, 1990 28 May, 1991 - Ron Atkinson 07 Jul, 1991 10 Nov, 1994)

And Sir Graham didn't do too bad a job did he so who knows!?

(Billy McNeill 22 Sep, 1986 08 May, 1987 - Graham Taylor 18 May, 1987 14 Jul, 1990)

The simple answer is they were good managers who had a plan and stuck to it without making bizarre team selections, asked players to play in positions they were good at and both weren't so defensive minded as Steve Bruce...... And of course, they were given more than 9 months because they bought themselves time by being successful.

As we speak the club are in good hands with an enthusiastic owner and an experienced board who are admittedly repairing the club from Lerner's time. However, they are being held back by our team manager who still has to get his act together but nevertheless, we are hardly a club on "its arse in every way it can possibly be."....We just need the current manager to start winning games and give us all some hope for the future and buy himself the necessary time given to good managers.

As a last resort to grab a draw/win I've got no problem with a tactic like this. Plenty of other teams over the years have done the same to ruffle the feathers of the opposition in the final third. Seen it work on many occasions. As long as he's not starting up front..... Mind you if he did....can you imagine the carnage on Vital....that would be something to behold...!!

I have no particular beef with the idea of sticking a big man up front searching for the win.

But to do it in the 90th minute is a bit weird. And to then say in the press after that Samba will be used for this just sends out the wrong message for me. It's certainly nothing to shout about nor be proud of.

If he played 40 games up front he'd score more goals than Gabby would in 40 games and that is the sad thing about it .
It was the fact that it took him 90 mins to do it that pissed me off not the fact he did it , why not stick him on at 75 mins , get the goal then he could revert to defender for the customary alamo last few mins !

Don't have a problem with it. Against Hull we hadn't challanged the defence all game in the air. He came on for the last few minutes and won all balls in the air and held the ball up and laid it off twice

Hogan or Gabby or even kodja when he is back won't win anything in the air but they will score from the flick on.Ooo

It's embarrassing not to try and win the game

Hopefully we will get a centre forward before the window shuts but until then why not
