3 years younger than JT only a 1 year deal so might inspire him to try for another year .
I think he'll play more than we think

Last few years we've been signing loads of players we'd never heard of and were hoping they're decent .

They weren't .

We are now signing players we know , and they are all better than we already have .

Well done all.

I certainly feel a lot happier with Terry and Samba at the back than any other pairing for years.
It seems to me that Steve Bruce is throwing it all at winning promotion this season.I get the feeling he`s in shit or bust mode.
I think we`ve got a big strong squad now. He`ll have no excuses if we fail this season.
I need some football now.Can we start the season early

Agree CP, but the problem with shit or bust approach is it leaves us where we've been for years with no long term plan.

I can understand Bruce's approach but he'll get it more right by keeping the youngsters involved so we bring them on as well.

That what I was hoping for to. This club needs to build, not keep on trying to buy ready-mades.

I'm hoping whoever we have lined up as targets now are with more of a mind to the future. I can see the semi sense in the signings so far to provide that experienced backbone assuming they all work out, but we can't be blinkered to the future as we have been for the last decade in one way or another and it's cost us.

Even if it's not as quickly as we all want, we have to start moving forward again.

Sadly Mike I think the current plan runs for one season (which is more than McCormack did)
Get the club back into the Premiership FULL STOP.

What happens after the club is promoted will be a one year plan to consolidate a position outside the bottom three, I honestly think its as simple as that, there's no 5 year plan with a rolling £100mil Investment like Lerner its shit or bust this season.

Samba 1 season
Terry 1 Season
Gabby last season
Grealish, last season to show he is Prem or out the fooking door.

If Villa aint in the top 4 at Christmas Bruce will have a lovely Christmas break.

I share your concerns, Michael. I think this is where a director of football would help.

If things go badly this season, Brucey is getting the chop and then we need another two transfer windows to reshape the squad to the new manager's liking.

Getting relegated was a disaster for the club but it was the opportunity to rebuild the squad with young, dynamic players who could develop into something special. We should be building for the next six years, not just for the next six months.

The business done by Bruce has been relatively cheap, with some one year deals for the oldies. To me the transfers have plugged gaps at little expense. The youngsters will all learn from the likes of JT, so I am relatively optimistic. No one can guarantee promotion, but if we don't make it, the youngsters will be a year further in their development.

I thought that Samba looked decent today and his presence in both boxes was there for all to see. He can really make a name for himself if he applies himself well this year and bolsters a defence that looked very vulnerable at times last season.

I agree that we have a high average age but if it is experience and attitude that gets you out of the Championship, then we are assembling the right kind of line up with the likes of Terry, Samba, Whelan and Jedinak.

There are still some question marks in Lansbury, Grealish and Hourihane but without the need to shore up the defence, they could become positive and push forward to help out Kodija and Hogan. Width is there now with Elmo, Green and Adomah. Bjarnason looked useful today as well.

Even bigger question marks are for Agbonlajhor, McCormack, Hutton and Amavi but we will see what happens. Don't be surprised to see Gardner wash up at the Sty with his brother and then declare that he too was always a Bluenose deep down.

I think that Samba was a good signing and we could all be cheering this business at the end of the season - I predict around 8 goals from him.

Samba getting a few reducers in early doors will quieten down a few opposing strikers who last season were getting too easy a ride.
Whilst I rate Chester , he's a bit nice to play against

With the experienced heads that Bruce has brought in, I feel it will be easier to introduce one or two youngsters into the team when required, so on that front alone we're in a better position than we were last season.

That said, on the whole it's been a decent window so far. It's no long term plan, agreed, but the youngsters can learn so much off the senior pros we now have.

Samba could be a surprise package, and the back looks pretty solid now. I am, still a little worried about our front line. Assuming McCormack does go, I'm sure Bruce will get a replacement in.

Pass it to Walker Roared The Villa Crowd
20005001002525
Ron Saunders always said 'buy for now, not the future , it may ne ver happen'
Even the 20 year old Andy Gray was bought for now and went straight in.
Seems to me that's what Bruce is doing. If the young players are good enough they will get in the side.
When Sid was a kid and we had Carrodus Cropley Mortimer and Ron then bought Scottish International Tommy Craig and Des Bremner. Didn't worry Sid he just showed he was the best.
If Green and the others have got it, they will get in.
