On the evidence so far this season, I'd go with:

Neuer

Chiellini / Bonucci / Carvajal

Marcelo / Kroos / Iniesta / Dani Alves

Ronaldo / Messi / Lewandowski

We should beat Reading with that lot.

If we start chopping and changing we're on a road to nowhere. Forget about individual performances yesterday, those players are still worth a shout; the team needs more games to show who can do it and who can't. It needs a run.

Johnstone

Hutton Chester Terry Taylor

Adomah Whelan Onamah Green

Hogan Gabby

Yep you can argue about player X should be dropped for player Y, but we have to stick with one team for several games. The team above should be able to give a good account of itself against Reading. Should.....if Bruce gets his tactics right

Based on a fully fit squad -

--------------- Johnstone -----------------
DeLaet. Chester Terry. Taylor
Green. Whelan. Jedinak Grealish
------- Kodija. ---- RHM-----------------

That's a promotion team

Think it's mistake to condemn players simply on their performances under an inept manager. Our performances at the end of last season were underwhelming, except for the last match against Brighton, when, in spite of them going for the title and us playing 1/3 of the match with 10 men, we matched them and came close to winning it. For our best formation I'd start with that, which was, with players now gone in brackets:

Johnstone

Bree Chester (Baker) Baker Taylor

Adomah Hourihane Lansbury (Bacuna) (Amavi)

Hogan

Jedi was injured, hence Hourihane and Lansbury having a rare outing together. You can argue about whether it was 4-5-1 or 4-4-1-1. It worked OK.

Fast forward now, and based on currently available players it could look something like:

Johnstone

Bree Chester Terry Taylor

Adomah Hourihane Lansbury Bjarnason Green

Hogan

Not sure about Bjarnason, and I think Green could do with being taken out of the firing line, but that's the best I can do.

If Hogan is injured I might, just might, be tempted to bring McCormack back! Don't think Davis and RHM are quite ready but I'd certainly have them on the bench.

I don't think it matters who the starting XI are if they can't be motivated to fight for each other and the shirt.

Seriously thinking mind coaches, and motivational speakers, maybe even hypnotists could be the only way forward. Desperation times!

Don't know whether it is the players Deano, think it is much more the lack of direction given. However, it does say a lot when Onomah is berating Flabby for his lack of closing down. We all know that Flabby is weak minded and is the first to give up when the chips are down.

Jap Staam, David Wagner and SlaviĊĦa Jokanovic, have all got their teams playing attractive football, with less resources than at Villa in under 10 months. Bruce will continue to make poorer and poorer decisions as he gets closer to the door. No-one likes to see managers squirm and blame others or ill fortune for their current position and it would be kinder and more merciful of Dr X to put Bruce out of his misery now. He can then go and work on his golf in Portugal which I understand has the same school report as his management.....could do better.

Not that it really matters as I've said above but we really need to start winning that midfield battle if we're to have any chance so everyone fully fit I'd go

Amazing really that no-one has put McCormack in their best 11. Seems he isn't wanted by Bruce or Vital Villains . It does seem like he is a total (word removed) based on what was revealed at the cricket match on another thread. Wondering how many more we have of his ilk in the club. It might actually change a few starting 11's if we had the inside track on the players. We of course don't have the luxury of seeing them in training, knowing them as individuals.

What is clearer to me is how entrenched the culture is in BMH and how any manager's task is bigger than we see as fans. People management and getting the best out of them is difficult at the best of times. If they are not self motivated individuals very often they follow the pack and just get by with the minimum effort. Thought JT would be able to influence the dressing room, but it appears not at the moment.

I still think SB is close to the exit door. There seems to be a pattern emerging of him wanting to make wholesale changes to the personnel in the dressing room to solve the problems which doesn't create stability. I read somewhere that SB used 36 players last season again a recipe for instability.
