Steer, Cissokho, Richards, Elphick, Gil, Veretout, Tshibola, Gardner, Grealish, Agbonlahor and McCormack need to move on, with possibly DeLaet, Hutton, Hourihane and Bjarnason joining them.
That's a possible 15 out of a squad of 28/9 leaving us a squad of 13/14.
To operate properly we would need to bring in 6 or 7 players, either by buying or promoting from within.

I'm glad you're not in Brucie's position 58!

For me, Cissokho, Richards, Gil, Veretout and maybe Gardner/Gabby should be on their bike. Presuming Johnstone and Whelan sign, we might need a left-back cover, but maybe De Laet or a youth team promotion will do. This might be a controversial opinion but we're OK for strikers - Kodj, Hogan, McCormack, plus Davis and H-M with the last 12 months of Gabby will do us fine.

I would be completely against yet another major overhaul of the squad. We've done it too many times in recent years and it has never worked. Too many changes just destabilises the squad, and buying too many players rather than focusing on key positions means you just stretch the resources too thin and don't get the required quality in.

I voted to sell all the players out on loan (excluding McCormack who should come back into the squad, and Tshibola who I would like to see more of) as it's clear they aren't wanting to be around, and will likely at least have some resale value. I also voted for Agbonlahor and Richards, both of them barely played for us last season and are just a waste of space and money. The other 2 were Elphick and Bacuna, both are mediocre, Elphick has already been replaced by Terry and it's clear Bruce doesn't like him as he didn't play him and even used Jedinak in defence rather than Elphick. As for Bacuna, just sick of him, a very mediocre player, he's a jack of all trades master of none and his stupid red card on the linesman was beyond moronic. Still get the impression that he thinks he's better than the club, too.

For incoming signings, obviously a goalie (I'd take Johnson back), a left back for cover to replace Amavi, a midfielder and a good wide player. Any more than that I think is just chopping and changing for the sake of it which never usually works out well.

Yes I agree with David. The mantra since January is that there will be only 3-4 signings this summer and it would be pointless to get rid of the likes of Hourihane and Bjarnason who have only been here 5 minutes.

Hopefully there will be a few going and the likes of Gil , Amavi , Veretout , Richards , Agbonlahorand co really need to leave for the sake of their own careers.

Now tell me Holte, what makes you think I'd get rid of all of those players I listed at one time if I were manager?
I might even Include one or more in any offer's made for other players.
My idea is that the first 11 really aren't good enough for Villa, with the other 4 maybe's.
I would expect that clear-out to take at least 3 transfer windows.

Fair enough mate, re: getting rid of them all at once, we're posting in a thread about this summer's transfer window, and you didn't say you'd phase them out over time. On paper I do think we'll have the best squad in the Championship come September. If only football was played on paper!

Jesus Holte mate, whatever you do, don't write things like that last sentence, you could give the FA and FIFA ideas.

"Steve Bruce is keen to play Crouch alongside John Terry"

https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/3976873/aston-villa-peter-cr...

I'm not sure about Bruce if this is true. Is Crouch expected to play at Centre back or Terry up front?

The player I willbe interested to see what happens is Tshibola.

Of all the players shipped out over the last year or so, he is the one that when I have seen him play he looks like he could be a decent player. The only thing I can think of is he has an appalling attitude. He certainly has looked more promising than any of the other midfielders, bar probably only Jedinak, so I cannot work out why he has been bombed out.

Yeah agree with that HL. Must be something behind the scenes, I thought he looked decent when played and could have brought something to the party. Certainly did more in his few games than I saw from Lansbury, for instance.

Oh CDX, stop the 'he's only 21/22' bullshite please.
How about a player like Dele Alli, similar potential and age to Grealish but, he's used it to become one of the first names on the teamsheet and to force his way into the full international squad, not the under 23's occasionly.

C'mon now, I think David cleared up the point fairly well but I'd add the issue of expecting your young players to be up there with the elite is another issue. People always use Neymar and Rooney etc. al to state that a kid at 21 will never make it if they don't do it at this age well lets not forget Mr. Bale. We don't need Grealish to be that good right now we just need more growth.

Steven Davis, Cahill, Albrighton these are all lads who took a couple seasons to get going but the talent was there we just didnt give them time or patience.

With Tshibola, Bruce may have reckoned that with the players he was bringing in, Tshibola was going to spend nearly all his time on the bench, so better to loan him out and get him some game time. He said recently that he intended to have a good look at him in pre-season. So it's possible that he may stay.

And I reckon the same will happen to a load more like RHM, Green, Davis,Lyden,Toner. I can't see Bruce going that route - he is more likely to go for experience, even if it is of the decidedly older kind. Doesn't matter who he signs if we adopt the do not lose attitude and pass the ball and 'create' like last season it will be curtains

If the likes of Agbonlahor, Gardner, Amavi, Richards, Elphick, and Bacuna don't leave and are considered to play by Steve Bruce then they will drag the others selected on a match day down to their substandard level and we will lose games by not playing with 11 players who can collectively win games.

It's over to you Steve!?

Crouch would be great for us .
The elephant in the room is still gabby and richards.
Can we ever move forward with these losers still around.
Gabby , richards , gill , veratout , elphick , hutton , bunn, gardner , cissokhu , gollini.
When all of the above are gone we can move forward.

We can move forward without them gone. 4 of the 10 have been no where squad.

And those four probably have the most to offer and annoy me a lot less than Gabby and Richards.

We'll most likely need to run the contracts down or offload on free transfers.

Hutton for all his faults can hardly be considered in the same league as the others you mention. And would do a job for us regardless of what his doubters say.

Yes we need rid, but we can't keep blaiming failure on players who do not play and the regime that brought them.

Moving on means we look to the future not the past. And we can do that no matter who is here. It's needed in us as much as the management.

Think it is imperative to trim the squad substantially. IMO a small tight squad working hard for each other and having to rely on some of the kids filling in creates the right environment for success.

Would love to see 10 leave - all the usual suspects so no surprises for me. Can see Amavi and Vertout staying until late in the window, but anyone who comes in for McCormack, Richards, Gabby and Hutton should have their arms ripped off after what I have witnessed in the games so far.
