FOr me, it all depends on why we are getting rid of them.

If it is a case of "we have to" then it is obviously the same old names for me as well.

However, if we really don't need to, and we can buy others without selling, I would be loathe to get rid of anyone to be honest. It's a long hard season, and who knows who / when we will need someone.

At this time last year, who would have suggested keeping Gabby, I doubt if one single person wanted him to stay - but he scored that goal , and who knows, someone like Gil may play one game and score / set up a goal that is fundementally crucial in getting us promoted.

Put it this way. David Geddis hardly played for the Villa, but when WIthe was suspended, he came in and scored two goals to beat the Blues -- without those goals ............

Is the second or third season when Jack Grealish has to make his mark......

I honestly think he is not good enough for the Premiership and doubt he is ever going to anything other than a "prospect" maybe he should spend a season or two in the second division, make him wake TF Up.

Personally, I don't think Jack has it. He's had enough chances now and never produced for us except in flashes. It's time to make way for the next generation. Green looks a better prospect.

Personally, I agree with you.

I've made it abundantly clear what I think of "Super Jack"

But, for me, he is in last chance saloon. He has this season to impress, and I really mean impress, not the odd flash bit, or goal here or there. He needs to

a) First of all, make that shirt his

b) Consistently be either motm or close to it, being that "spark" and "creativity we desperately need

c) add goals and assists to his game - at least 7 goals, and at least 10 assists (if Adomah can do it, so can he.

If , and it is an IF (because I honestly don't think he will do that, I will be surprised really if he achieves more than 20 starts, the vast majority of them being early season and in cups) he does that, then he will deserve to stay and (hopefully) try and do all that again in the Premier League.

One more season Jack - I don't want to hear a single thing about you off the pitch (good or bad - you don't hear of the good stuff great players do, because they do it for the good, not to get publicity) and I want to come away from the match, if not every week, the majority of weeks saying "hmmm, maybe he is going to prove me wrong"

I kind of agree on Jack, but I've said it over and over again.... I would love to see him playing in a team winning games and high on confidence.

Since he broke through he's only ever played in struggling teams, and never been able to nail down a regular starting spot as managers have picked grafters to try and escape relegation and the like.

I think if you stuck him in Newcastle's team last season he'd have flourished. Just want to see him playing regulalry in a confident winning side before writing him off.

I would hope that JT gets stuck into Grealish. He would be just the kind of player Grealish needs to have around him.

The problem with our squad (beside a lack of professionalism and a tendency toward giving in when things get tough) is that we have so many players in and around the same ability. You could reasonably sell anyone and barely miss them.

How many players are head and shoulders above the rest of the squad? Only about 3 or 4 guys. Now that brings into questions the likes of Green and Grealish you wouldnt sell them because they are so close to the current median talent of the squad that they will get above that within a few seasons.

Selling Grealish is retarded he has so many years ahead of him and could easily click within a season or two. Patience please. I can admit that he'll maybe go nowhere but what is the greater risk? Keeping him around professionals like Terry and Jedi with a manager like Bruce and risking him getting less professional or selling a potential star prematurely.

Only the management see him day in day out the n training etc, but if there's no hunger to become a top player now, where's it going to come from in the future. Does Jack Grealish have the mentality to become a more useful asset to this club than he currently is?

I don't get how anyone can make such big judgements on a player who is 21 soon to be 22. He has a long way to go he's only managed 20 games and scored 3 or 4 goals in that time. Players with more experience and less expectations have failed at VP. The pressure on a 21 year old to succeed at a club which has struggled massively never seems to be taken into account.

We all want to see him do well I know that but its so easy to sit back and criticise. Perspective is very much needed.

Luckily I am not in a minority he only managed 1.5% of the vote but still lets be patient.

I kind of agree with you Deano. I too think Jack is a 'confidence' player and playing in a successful team, I'm sure he'd blossom.

Hopefully, this season may prove the point.

The role that JT will serve within the team is vital for the prospects of many - all the youngsters will look up to him and the more you read in the press about his professionalism, his way with the Villa press, the groundstaff - he took time out of an interview to chat to them and told the press that they were all part of the Villa team!

If this rubs off on half the squad, they will be better professionals and perhaps understand the privelege of playing for Aston Villa. This can only have a positive effect on training, atmosphere and thereby results - unless they are all a real bunch of arrogant cocks (surely they can't all be). I'm beginning to understand why he ran the Chelski dressing room.

doubt they'll get much playing time tbh
Bruce didn't play them except when forced by injuries last year (perhaps except for Grealish)
and if the names touted about for transfers in are right then it'll be more even old journeymen this season.

Oh CDX, stop the 'he's only 21/22' bullshite please.
How about a player like Dele Alli, similar potential and age to Grealish but, he's used it to become one of the first names on the teamsheet and to force his way into the full international squad, not the under 23's occasionly.

Steer, Cissokho, Richards, Elphick, Gil, Veretout, Tshibola, Gardner, Grealish, Agbonlahor and McCormack need to move on, with possibly DeLaet, Hutton, Hourihane and Bjarnason joining them.
That's a possible 15 out of a squad of 28/9 leaving us a squad of 13/14.
To operate properly we would need to bring in 6 or 7 players, either by buying or promoting from within.

I think it's a bit silly to pick the best young player in the country and to then blame one of our players for not being as good as them.

Grealish showed great promise at an early age, but so do a lot of players and only a handful go on to become top international players. Maybe Grealish can still get to that level, even if he falls short of that level that doesn't mean we should discard him just because he doesn't live up to the fans' unrealistic expectations of young players. At the moment he's definitely good enough at this level, he perhaps doesn't have the consistency which is why we could do with another winger though
