I couldn't think of a better place for Villa Park to be than where it is now.

I know so many fans who dont go anymore and could be enticed back.
How about a season ticket open day week for a half term where lapsed or infrequent fans could come along and be mercilessly sold the dream by a plethora of ex players.
We need to do so much more with the selling and promotion of season tickets , 35000 should be the target .

For me villapark is in the wrong place, its out if the way.

Erm, it's in Aston. Where the team comes from.

Where else would you like it to be?

Some things are non negotiable. Moving from there is one of those things in my opinion .

Hahaha. In the wrong place.

We've been playing there since, 1897. If its inconvenient I'd say you are in the wrong place. We can hardly just pick it up and move it.

I'd not call Aston out of the way either.

Inconvenient? Not so but the area around the ground is dead and olny comes alive on matchday , the ground is not easily accessible on matchday. I get the whole history thing but we need to be closer to the city centre on our side and move forward with the ongoing investment that is taking place .

Think ultimately the only work around for this, as a City Centre spot would make more commercial sense etc is if we ever built a new ground and made the move then, with VP itself shrunk somewhat where it just became our Under 23 base.

We have two railway lines close by, one of which has a station virtually on our doorstep, we have a motorway junction about a mile from the door and we even have a canal in the vicinity.

We are even situate next toand in whatused to be the grounds of 17th century mansion.

Despite all the handy transport links, it can take over an hour to get away from the ground after a game. Which is crazy.

Where we are is pretty much where you would want to put a football stadium. But we do need to make much better use of what is around us.

The best part of 50 years ago ASDA wanted to reconstruct the stadium for us, with shops, restaurants, hotel and entertainment centre's included but, the ever forward-looking Birmingham City Council rejected the plans because it would affect the livelihood of local shops.
The shops concerned consisted of a row of six premises, three of which were empty.
The council refused to reconsider even after they were promised that the local shops would be given their choice of units within the shopping mall.
What a huge boost it would have been for the area.
I think, Chas mate, it's the council that needs to wake up and start investing in the area and investing in the area doesn't necessarily mean huge financial investment, just loosening the iron grip they have on planning consents would work wonders.

Funny that considering there's now a massive Tesco casting a massive shadow over these local businesses, surprised some of the shops are still going since that opened.

I usually get home between 5:30 and 6 after a Saturday 3pm using the train from Aston, traffic is a problem around any football stadium after a match.

It is something we want and need, it is our problem before it is anyone elses.

I remember the ASDA inititaitive very well, I'd say that there have been a number of occasions in the past when the council have at best been awkard. I have no idea what the problem has been but the relationship between the club and the council is something Xia needs to address.

Have just read in the Guardian about Liverpool Council acting as guarantors for the loans Everton plan to take out to finance a new Stadium in some clapped out area by the docks. The council are not actually paying money, they are acting as facilitatrs (and taking a fee for it).

By the time that stadium is built I dare say Anfield will have further expanded leaving the hierarchy of cities with 50k+ league football stadiums something like :-

London 4 (including developments at WHL and Chelsea, not incl. Wembley)
Manchester 2
Liverpool 2
Newcastle 1
Birmingham 0

Is this really not a problem?

Tom - only just seen your post, sorry. There's traffic and there is traffic. Villa Park is far worse than most other grounds I have travelled to, despite its proximity to the motorway system. I have driven past Aston Station around 5:45/6:00 and there is a queue down the steps and along Lichfield Road.

At the moment we get the committed; if we want to get a step increase in gates we are going to have to get the partially committed to take on a substantial change in their Saturday routine. That's a lot harder to acieve when the proposition includes staring at your speedometer for an hour - or whatever.

Out of interest, how aggressively does the Club market the fact that those living along the south west railway line out of Brum ( or wherever you are) actually live only 30 minutes from Villa Park? Fliers through the door? Match/Rail Ticket deals? Tony X banging on the door insisting on giving a full PowerPoint job?

Once HS2 opens I will bet my last quid that we will look to relocate to the NEC.

Next to an airport, a HS2 station, a motorway. 10000 car parking spaces, umpteen hotels, a Casino , a cinema , a restuarant complex

and lots more land to develop

ALL owned hy tge Chinese !and no Birmingham Council to worry about.

Betcha !

If that were to happen holte my friend, the Villa would lose its identity, it would no longer be ASTON Villa and that would be a sad sad day.

Next meeting is early June... this is a rough draft of what we have at the moment:

Catering:

why are all the catering staff so flipping surly and almost unpleasant? Ok, they're probably minimum wage but I'd guess McDonald's staff are as well and they keep the pretence up 40 hours a week, not four.

Still on the catering - we're a captive audience when in the ground, with enough goodwill for the club to accept we'll be paying a little bit over the odds for our balti pie and beer. Must be a way to make either the infrastructure and/or staffing more efficient, so that in those pre-game and half time pinch points, people aren't put off trying to buy anything.

Why's it so hard to get a drink or something at half time?! Again at Dortmund, with substantionally more people, I could get a beer absolutely no problem at half time. On the subject of beer, be nice if we could actually get a decent beer in, drop whoever it is we sell at the moment and get a contact with a local brewery, for example, Purity from Studley.

Tickets:

Can you ask them why when I print my own tickets do I get charged an "admin" fee please? Considering I'm using my own printer and ink it's a bit of a piss take

Wi-fi:

Free wifi at Dortmund the wifi is on pre game, half time and after the game and works very well.

Support:

The AVFC support page on twitter seems good, they respond to queries and provide updates on tickets. But, I don't have twitter and neither do I want to set one up so is there any chance they could do something similar either via the official site (Live chat?), Facebook or email?

Transport:

One for the future but in Germany your match ticket gets you free local travel to the match, would help encourage people to come and also to ditch their car. No one checks tickets at Aston station nor on the train anyway so just make it free within a certain radius or region.

Need the U23s on AVTV as well as Facebook.

Definitely need to change entrance music and again agree that Sabbath would be the logical choice

Lack of half time entertainment, maybe re-introduce fan competitions.

Don’t get why football clubs want fans in at 2.56 and gone by 4.55. Why not put incentives for fans to get there early, and thus spend money. Maybe local bands playing at 2.00, ex players on concourses for photos , give aways from sponsors etc...
following on from my 'make it more than 90 mins' theme. Why not play U23 games before out home games, kick off, say, 1230 , means if you wanted to, you could get there early, watch the first game, have a 45 min break and then watch the main game. during it, they would sell drinks, food, and the U23s would get more exposure. during the U23 game, if ex players were on the concourse to have photo's with, and at half time, they had competitions, it would make it more of a day out.

Old style sports forums - where have they gone ?

Badge , get rid quick. Symbolises failure. Either 57 or Round badge back with simple star above it

Any likelihood the Lions Club in the Doug Ellis will be reopened?

Server capacity for the ticketing website needs to be addressed.
My understanding is that it is onsite and switching to a server with Ticketmaster would fix the issue.

Transparency of the ticket service offering on who to call for what etc… What is fully outsourced to Ticketmaster and what is in-house?
Having called the club to upgrade a ticket, over 10 minutes to get through at 9 am this morning, was told to call back and select option 5 as this had to be dealt directly with the club. It then took 17 minutes to speak to someone.

With one of the lowest attendances this season last night, the catering kiosks were struggling to keep up with the demand in the Lower Holte. With the addition of the capital investment from Compass over the summer, what is being done about improving efficiency?

Qualifying criteria for away games not feeding through online. The club is encouraging people to buy online. Which is great if it works.

For the next formal meeting, we should ask the club to provide concourse signs on the exit of the Lower Holte & Lower North for the return of the flags that have been fan-funded in the Lower North & Holte. Some flags have gone walkies. I think it's an educational process, as some fans may think it's a one off and the flags have been given out free. Maybe they can do a tannoy announcement at the first home game too?
