When Guardiola gets his players to understand the way he wants them to play, then magic happens. Just as it did when Guardiola was playing in Johan Cruyff's dream team. Of course Cruyff himself evolved under the Master of Total Football, the one and only Rinus Michels. One of the joys of being my age is that I have seen these great teams from Ajax of the early seventies, the magical Dutch teams of the seventies, the Barca dream teams ... Guardiola is showing the world how beautiful the game is and indeed was.

No doubt Guardiola is an extremely talented coach and deserves great credit for his work to get City playing the way they are. He took a lot of flak last year but stuck to his principles and is now reaping the rewards. Having said all that, I wonder how he'd fair at a mid-table club with a modest budget. I believe very strongly that there are many managers out there who simply don't get the credit they deserve for their work. Total football (as you correctly pointed out) under Michels and subsequently Cruyff was possible at that time, due to significantly more parity in the game (ie. less movement of players). Nowadays, the top clubs pay the big money for players from anywhere, so ONLY the top clubs can every expect to play anything resembling total-football. Try to imprint the same style at Stoke City and it would be a complete disaster!

Is Sheffield Wednesday going to do us a favour tonight? I doubt it, and even if they do, I doubt if we'll be able to take advantage tomorrow.

Another win for wolves. They didn’t play particularly well but still looked a class above (on a cold night in Sheffield!). Very classy goal. Any doubts I had about them walking this division disappeared after watching the game tonight.

Yep. Just seen their result. Hats off. They keep going.
Trouble is when it's cold and all their foreign players bottle it what are they going to do?

Not sure where to put this, but.... Melbourne City lost 3-1 to Sydney FC last night. But more importantly, they have probably lost Ross McCormack for the rest of the season.

Scans in the next couple of days will confirm if he has a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Wolves are a class above the rest of the division. Costa was the best player that I saw at VP all last season but cannot get in the starting 11. Unless they lose Boly, Neves, Jota and Bonatini for months I cannot see them slipping up. That leaves 12 to 15 other teams battling for the other 2 spots. We need to improve if we are to get 1 of those spots, starting with the simple job of getting a striker on loan who will get us 12-15 goals in the second half of the season!

Benteke has scored! Palace taking Leicester apart. Good example to us.

Well done Roy Hodgson. He isn't one of the clicky brigade and has had a very interesting carreer. Hope he keeps them up .

Palace winning impressively at Leicester.

I certainly didn't see that coming.

Wolves looked average to me, they got lucky, their big centre half should of been sent off. Terrible referee

Absolute scumbag challenge by Deli Alli on Kevin de Bruyne, the crap ref gave yellow. KdB managed to get up and scored a magnificent goal soon after. The Ref and Deli should be suspended for weeks on no pay

It takes a very special guy to manage the egos of the best players - nothing more to be said really - apart from the often used 'wonder how Messi would do at Stoke blah blah' - well they will never know will they. Anyway if you have to ask ...
