WTF is it??!!

Someone at work just started talking about it and I had no idea what the fudgery fcuk they were on about.

Apparently you leave your computer on all the time and 'mine' Bitcoins and can then spend them like currency?

Sounds dumb.

Mrs Butter plays a game on her iPhone where you collect coins produced by fish and then use those coins to buy other fish which also produce coins.

Bitcoins are a volatile unit of internet currency, I read up on them a while ago, they are untraceable so are used by black market internet dealers. They can also be hacked, there is a wiki article about them. I have never owned or earned any.

I've no idea what you are talking about but I love the idea of some dodgy guy in a trench coat selling internets from the back of a van.

I read the Wiki article and am none the wiser.

I think it's something for clever criminals rather than dumb law abiding citizens such as myself. :-)

I think they key points to note are that it is regulated by a peer to peer network rather than a central bank, and is an untraceable method of transferring funds. Its all very geeky and I don't really understand it either.

According to this video, it's internet money that you can use to buy things online. They are calling it a revolution in banking but I can't see it. You need to download a programme called a bitcoin miner and then you get free coins every so often. You can buy them and sell them on an open market.
