Never went to Mothers , I was still only 14 when it closed and being 14 in those days was rather different than it is today. All my energies were devoted to getting to Villa games and scraping together enough money to go. Must have been brilliant though, Free, Purple, Family, Tull etc ... wow!

'Mothers' was truly something else villasince67. Quality music virtually every night.

The list of bands that we saw at Mother's in the club's relatively short lifespan, reads like a who's who of rock and roll legends.

A wonderful time, leaving behind some truly wonderful memories.

I still have my Mothers membership card. I got it laminated, and to this day it remains a cherished possession.

The beautifully written, and superbly sung 'Blue' by that lady of the canyon, Joni Mitchell.

My all time personal favourite Joni Mitchell album.

The track just playing, the haunting 'Last Time I Saw Richard'.

Let's hear it for Joni.

Bet you saw him at Villa Park back in the day didn't you Bikini?

One of the first of the famous/notorious Doug Ellis/Villa Park 'rock' concerts, back in the mid-70's.

Superb album isn't it villaiain. Not a bad track on there.

And as you so rightly say, definitely better on vinyl.

'Ashes Are Burning' - Renaissance

The excellent Annie Haslam and co. with their 1973 studio album, think it was their third or fourth. An orchestra is heavily featured on the album.

Stand out tracks, 'Can You Understand', 'Carpet Of The Sun', and the title track.

A little bit of Renaissance never hurt anyone.

The very excellent, outstandingly superb, 'Deja Vu' - David Crosby, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash, and Neil Young.

Top tracks, 'Almost Cut My Hair', 'Southern Man', 'Helpless'.

Brilliant stuff. From first track to last.
