Not To Big To Avoid Drop

Aston Villa are not to big to avoid the drop according to Gavin McCann in an interview with Frank Paverman for The Sun.

McCann has pointed to tomorrow's game against Middlesbrough as a 'must win' in order to keep just above the basement battlers. Villa have cemented their reputation as draw specialists this year (9 in total, with 9 losses as well) and put up a great display against Chelsea in a 1-1 draw midweek. Villa can count themselves unlucky not to have won that but they now have to repeat the performance in a less glamorous tie.

The 28-year-old midfielder told the Sun: 'It's obvious to anyone that we need more points. We had a good spell over the festive period but then ended up losing to West Ham when most people thought we would have no problem. Losing that one was quite a blow.'

Adding 'There isn't much of a gap between the teams around the middle of the table and it's up to us to make sure we move up.'

He also says the team would welcome the luck of the draw to continue their FA Cup run (Villa face Manchester City at home in the 5th round) and that he is enjoying his football following an injury ravaged start to the season.
