'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Let Me Go. THIS WEEK.

Ulises de la Cruz is still trying to get a free transfer from Aston Villa.

The 31-year-old wants a move so he can get first team football and push his claim for a place in the Ecuador squad for the World Cup. However O'Leary was quoted as saying he wouldn't give any player a free transfer and that any player expecting one was in 'dreamland.' For full quotes, click here

Reports suggest that De la Cruz will ask for a meeting with Villa boss O'Leary.

DLC told IC Brum: 'It is a very frustrating time for me. The manager has not given me the chance to prove myself - and he has said that I can't leave on a free transfer. It is difficult for me therefore because I have five or six months left on my contract and no-one will pay £200,000. That is impossible for five months. I need to make a decision this week.'

The winger/defender, who has 107 caps, says that Ecuador's plans for the World Cup have also been disturbed by his lack of games.

He continued: 'I only care to leave because of the World Cup and my family. And I need to get the manager to understand my situation and let me leave on a free.'

Despite links here there and everywhere, he has confirmed: 'I have not spoken to any other clubs. We are still waiting to here the club's decision. It has to be a free transfer or a very small fee at the most.'

Hmmm. Split on this one. Why should Villa let an asset go for nothing? BUT if he isn't going to be played, and lets face it, he isn't (!), then why keep him? Surely it would at least save a few pennies for Doug in wages, not to mention the bill for lucazade and then there are a fair few letters in his name, that all costs money when printing them on the shirts you know? I'll stop as I feel a ramble coming on!

Let him go! Let him go! Whole hearted performer but I can't see him ever being the type of player to take Villa forward

Trouble is, our squad is already tiny, we have injuries all over the place and there will be no new arrivals at Villa Park during the transfer window, so why should he be allowed to leave for nothing? Not the best player in the world, but he always gave his all. No, you're right, let him go!!!

Morning men. Sorry to say this but I only see his role in the squad as making up the numbers and providing a certain amount of depth in body mass. I'm sure someone else could be brought in with lesser payment requirements. Let the young one's have a go!

Trouble is Villa have said that we can't have any new arrivals, so why let what we do have go?
