And The Winner Is..........

And the winner is...............

Steven Davis who was made the first winner of the Belfast Telegraph's George Best Breakthrough Award.

The Aston Villa and Northern Ireland midfielder was presented the prize by George Best's son Calum.

21-year-old Davis, born in Ballymena, has been a virtual ever present for Villa this year and also excelled for his country.

Davis said: 'I am honoured to become the first winner of this award. George was a hero to everyone in Ireland. To win an award set up in his honour is wonderful for me.'

The tough young midfielder currently has four league and two Carling Cup goals this season making him our joint top scorer with Milan Baros(5 league, 1 Carling Cup). He has made twenty two starts and had one appearance as a sub.

Must admit, I would like to have seen the list of players who were in the competition, but he is an outstanding prospect.
