What Aston Villa Need To Do To Beat PNE Tonight

What Aston Villa Need To Do To Beat PNE Tonight

Three things we need to do to bounce back from the weekends defeat v Fulham, to beat Preston North End.

1) Pray we have someone left on the left...!

It`s all going wrong with injuries just as we got ourselves into a lovely rhythm and were winning.

Plenty of opinions in the forum thread.

sirdennis said: "Replace Albert and Super Jack with as close to like for like players as possible. O'Hare for Grealish and with Green injured there is only Thor who can play on the left unless RHM can do a job there."

deanovilla: "But if we're talking like for like (Bit of pace and ability to score a goal) then I think Grabban, RHM or dare I say even Gabby would be a better replacement for Adomah than Thor."

I`d assume that Grabban will be played and will be on the left. Sorted, hopefully he`s fit and up for it for us. I`m sure he will be.

Whatever they decide player wise:

2) Get back to how we took on the Blues.

Play on our front foot, don`t show the opposition too much respect, push them and let them know they are at Villa Park and that means they are in for a battle. We cannot give PNE time on the ball. As sirdennis said, "no cagey nonsense."

The injuries we have are big losses but lets not start sitting back just because a couple of (good!) players are out.

3) Not being a boo boy but...

I can`t see what Onomah has brought to the party at all since moving on loan from Spurs. So I`m far from sure why Steve Bruce has stuck with him? McParlandTheGreat agrees, saying in the thread "Recognise that Onomah gives us nothing. Lansbury is a far more positive option."

I`d agree, lets give Lansbury license to get forward and have a boot up his backside if he doesn`t do so. Now he`s cut off his top-knot, he deserves a chance!!! As an attacking midfielder, he should add something positive to the team and at least he is our player, no point blocking our own squad for loan signings UNLESS the loans are bang in form and giving 100% obviously.

And what can us Villa fans bring to the occasion?

Lets be vocal in a positive way and not get all nervous and agitated. It`s time for us to make a bit more noise as the Villa boys look to keep up their impressive recent (Fulham aside!) form.

I agree with nearly everything. Has to be like for like and keep Snoddy on the right. In CM I would go for Thor holding as Jedi is too immobile and is better suited to physical game (like the Blues) or when closing a game out, Lansbury OR Onomah (the kid is getting a lot of unfair stick - he has played everywhere except in his best position) at 8 and, if Jack is out still, Hourihane at 10 (he is not an 8 - he doesn't have the pace or drive - but can play 10 as he showed against Norwich earlier in the season.

Cant see O'Hare starting after he played for the U23's last night, he may get 15-20 minutes off the bench if we are struggling. I'd also agree with Tony, Onomah has had far too much stick from some - he was looking good at the start of the season but seems to have lost his way the last 2 or 3 months. Must be a confidence issue as I don't believe this nonsense about him not caring. Preston can be a physical team so personally I'd have Jedi & Barney in the middle with Hourihane in front of them.

My views on Lansbury are well documented in the forums, but I'd certainly be prepared to give him the chance in the Grealish role tonight. He was much more effective at Forest when playing further forward and he has goals in him. I'd rather see him in the side than Gabby, any day of the week.

Just concerned this weeks results could determine our season, a poor result tonight and again at the weekend could see us way off an automatic promotion, we need to be on the front at home, wrap some of these game sup early and then put on youngsters to gain experience. Trust Bruce but he doesn't seem to be giving our academy the chances they deserve which could come back to bite us. Hope I'm wrong.

What do we need to do to beat Preston? Score more than 50% of the goals! If we don't score I can guarantee that we will not win.

We need to play with the same tempo from first whistle to the last like we did against small heath. Forward thinking team selection is important too.

Massive game, we all know this, the team know this and Bruce for sure will know this. A win and we are back on our way. No good contemplating a loss!
