Chelsea Return For JT Or A Player/Coach Role At Villa?

Chelsea Return For JT Or A Player/Coach Role At Villa?

Vital Chelsea and the magic Merlin reported John Terry might be eying a return to Stamford Bridge in a coaching role.

Merlin said "At 37-years-of-age, John has a wealth of experience in the game and if anybody is able to bridge that gap between playing and managing, then John`s the one that would get my vote. Also, the manner in which he conducts himself, allied with his excellent man-management and motivational skills, in my mind, make him the ideal prospect for, one day, the top-role at Stamford Bridge."

He`s certainly been a key influence for us this season, as can be seen from this article on the stats for when he plays/doesn`t play:

The Birmingham Mail have obviously seen this rumour and asked Steve Bruce about the former England defenders future. Bruce has made it clear, if JT wants a coaching role, Villa will happily provide one for him.

"I hope he stays here. If he wants to do coaching he can come and be part of our coaching team. If that is what he wants, no problem."

Bruce, same as the situation with Alan Hutton, says there is no point talking about his future at the moment, Villa need to see where we end up next season first but he hopes that if JT wants to get a coaching role, he`ll do it at Villa. He also says he hopes Terry wants to go into management.

I`d think he will still want to play on. So a lot will depend where we are, although as I`ve said before, there is a very simple solution if we get promoted and John Terry doesn`t want to play v Chelsea:

There is an option for another 12 months in the deal but from what Bruce is saying, the decision will be 100% JT`s. Lets hope, no matter what division we are in, he can stay and lead the line again. And if he can bring some coaching skills to the party, then why not!? Fair enough, it is more than likely at some point he`ll end up at Chelsea as a coach or manager, but in the meantime, we might as well take advantage of his leadership skills.

Bruce also says that JT will only be focused on one thing at the moment, getting Villa promoted.

Hopefully we are celebrating automatic promotion come May and JT would be an amazing asset for Villa back in the premiership, all the skills and experience he brings is priceless, not going up is not worth thinking about as not only will we loose the experience but our prized players will be elsewhere come next August, we will never have a better chance than now !!!!

I'd love him to stay on. And totally agree - rest him against Chelsea if that's a deal breaker. If we do go up and he does decide to pack it in, there will be a huge hole to fill. Mind you, Cahill no longer an automatic pick at Chelsea these days... wonder if he'd fancy a return to B6?!

In many ways Terry would be better taking the coaching role with us, then earning his corn from the bottom up if he harbours hopes of one day managing Chelsea. If he goes into their set up, he could get lost and miss opportunities to make his own name because he'd be happy to be there.
