A Reward Or Simply Sensible?

A Reward Or Simply Sensible?

Aston Villa have been handed a three to four day break by manager Steve Bruce ahead of our preparations for Sheffield United next week.

The Birmingham Mail quote Bruce as saying that with an upturn in form and no game this coming weekend following our victory over Barnsley, the players and the staff would all get a few days off as a reward for our current run.

The reality is it's more than that though as Villa have had a virus spread through the camp the last week and with it hitting both players and staff, some recuperation time and hopefully clearing the virus out of Bodymoor Heath makes all the sense in the world.

'I`m giving everybody three or four days off. James Chester played today with the flu really and he looked like it towards the end. All my staff have been sick, my doctor`s had it, my second in command has had it, the staff have had it, they`ve all had it! It`s the ideal time to give everyone three or four days off in preparation for Sheffield United. I hope my phone won`t be ringing too much.'

Bruce also said that with Scott Hogan and Birkir Bjarnason showing a good uplift in form in recent times, the challenge was there for Henri Lansbury to become the next one to show us what he's really capable of.

'That's why we brought him (Hogan) and we invested heavily in him. I'm delighted for him, because there's probably been some times where he's had some dark moments. All of them who I signed last January have only just come to terms with it now, what playing for Aston Villa is. Birkir, for example, has put in two wonderful performances in the last couple of games. Hourihane has always done okay. Now we need Lansbury to come to the party too. He's had a big problem with injury but hopefully the second part of the season we'll see the emergence of him too.'

Long season and hopefully this will freshen them up but just hope the momentum isn't lost and Bruce and co can get them fired up for next game against Sheffield Utd, often after international breaks I feel Villa can be a bit lethargic. With two home games following we have a great chance of a good haul of points . UTV

Very sensible, good window of opportunity to let their bodies rest, have a chill, get mentally and physically sharp for the next batch of games.

Yeah, got no problem at all with this. At least they aren't taking the squad for 'warm weather training' or whatever they call it - total nonsense. A few days off and we can go hard at it for the next three and a half months.
