Bruce Not Planning January Sales

Bruce Not Planning January Sales

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has ruled out selling players this month to help strengthen the group or improve our position when it comes to Financial Fair Play.

With Bruce already saying that we were unlikely to buy players this month, with him instead looking at loan options to bolster our promotion chances, he's quoted by the Birmingham Mail as saying that unlike the summer, nobody will be sold purely for financial purposes.

Discussing our plans, he explained.

'Losing Kodjia was a blow to us so we need a new striker. We want someone like Keinan Davis, who is big and strong and can hold the ball up, a traditional No.9. We`ll try to get one or two loan players if we can to try to help us, and if we can`t then the squad has proven that we`re capable. Of course we`d like a hand but that`s the way we are at the moment and a couple of loan players is what we can look for.'

As for departures, he went on to explain.

'What I don`t want to do is sell anybody who is a value to us right now. In the summer we had to get rid of players like Jordan Amavi, for instance. In an ideal world we didn`t want Amavi to go but the offer was too good for us and it enabled us to do what we needed to do. It`s not easy with FFP.'

He went on to add.

'But I don`t think we would lose one of our better players in January. I won`t allow that to happen and I`m sure my boss won`t want it either.'

What Bruce defines as 'value to us' is open for interpretation I would guess because we have some players on good money it would be hard to class as even fringe players at the moment.

One player 'not for sale' would certainly apply to is Keinan Davis who The Current Bun have bizarrely linked with a £3million move to Brighton!

Every player has a price, but unless there are incoming, have to agree we don't want to let any out really ...

Let some youngsters out on loan, but unless we have to sell to buy a key player, no point from an FFP perspective. Leave that for the summer when we know where we are and potential ramifications. Valuations won't change that much between now and them and we could need the more fringe players come the summer if the worst happens.

Pity we can't sell some of our 'deadwood' but with wages they are on they are quite content to do little and earn lots.
