The Jedi - Good News For Socceroos - Bad News For Villa?

Good news for Australia but not the best of news for Aston Villa this really.

Mile Jedinak, who has only been fit enough to make two appearances (from the sub bench) for Aston Villa this season, is currently on international duty with Australia and likely to feature this weekend v Honduras .

The combative midfielder is quoted in as saying he`s given no thoughts to retiring from international duty.

The 33-year-old is looking to the 2019 Asian Cup as a likely time to retire.

Jedi said: 'At this stage, no. Having been away for a little while it doesn't come into the thought process. Whether that happens remains to be seen but as far as I know I will give everything I can for as long as I can. Until I'm told otherwise or I decide otherwise.'

It seems his time on the sidelines hasn`t made him re-assess the heavy travelling and toll the extra games take on his body, quite the opposite in fact.

'Having had a little spell away, it's probably one of the furthest things on my mind.' Adding, "When you have a little time out now like I have - having been involved for such a long period - it's not nice. You just want to get out there and do what you possibly can to make it last for as long as you can.'

In some ways, you can`t blame him. Careers are short and representing your country is often the pinacle. Can`t help but think the Socceroo's gain is our loss though. The travelling alone takes it`s toll let alone the extra games and at a time that Villa really could do with a fully fit Jedi. His choice, not ours, I`m quite rightly only interested in Aston Villa and retirement from the international scene might have lengthened his club career.
