Villa To Appeal Taylor Red Card

Villa To Appeal Taylor Red Card

Manager Steve Bruce has confirmed that Aston Villa will appeal the straight red card shown to Neil Taylor in today's game against Bolton Wanderers.

The Welsh international left back was shown the straight red for a stoppage time foul on Adam Le Fondre by match day referee Jeremy Simpson and Bruce is pretty confident that the Football Association will overturn the decision as it was a yellow card offence at best.

Should the Football Association be as idiotic as a poor, poor referee and not overturn the decision, Taylor will be facing a three match ban and would be ruled out of games with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Fulham and Birmingham City.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail immediately post game, Bruce joked it had been a 'tough' afternoon for the referee.

'I`ve just looked at it again and there has been a lot of challenges similar to that if I`m being honest. It was a foul and probably a yellow card but in my opinion it`s not red because he`s not shown his studs.'

He added.

'He`s tried to kick the ball so in that respect the referee has got it wrong. It`s been a tough afternoon for him. Plenty of challenges went awry and the game was littered with fouls like that so I hope he thinks 'let`s have a look and rescind it` - it would be a yellow rather than a straight red.'

Most fans are probably wondering how Simpson found the pitch and didn't end up in Scotland based on the rest of his decision making on the day.

Bruce added.

'It was a difficult afternoon for him (Simpson) on a quick pitch and some of the physical challenges were shuddering. Those two centre-halves have kicked Kodjia and Keinan all afternoon.'

Should give the referee a 3 match ban for making that stupid decision, never a red card.

Hopefully will be rescinded - but often not the case. If that is so, would like to see Oscar Borg given a chance, given the positive comments others have made of him, plus the fact that he actually is a left back. We haven't looked good, playing our seasoned professionals out of position. Hope Callum gets more opportunities too. One of ours, and we all want him signed up I know. 3 nil up against Burton, was an ideal opportunity to give him decent match time. He's never looked anything other than good so far.

Couldn't really tell how bad it was from where I was sitting, but judging by the rest of the referee's decisions today I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if he got it wrong. Mr Simpson had an absolute shocker

Looked very harsh, not sure it will be overturned but worth appealing.
