Back To Back Wins Please Bruce

Back To Back Wins Please Bruce

Manager Steve Bruce was delighted to see Aston Villa pick up back to back victories as we faced Nottingham Forest yesterday.

Following on from Barnsley, it was all change for the EFL Cup loss to Middlesbrough, but Bruce reverted back to the same group for Forest on Saturday at Villa Park and goals from Albert Adomah and Conor Hourihane gave us the two one win.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media to give his post game press conference, a delighted Bruce explained.

'It was a typical Championship match. But we took our chances when we needed to. Most teams this season are going to come here and set up to keep the ball. Forest had 60-odd per cent possession in the first half, but it was all in their half and near their goalkeeper. That's what teams are trying to do to us - come here, keep the ball and frustrate everyone in the ground. But we stuck at it. It was a moment of quality from Conor Hourihane - a great goal that won us the game.'

As for back to back wins in the Championship.

'It's important that we've given ourselves a platform because we didn't have the best of starts. Since then, we've been playing a bit of catch up. When you do that you play with a bit of pressure - there's plenty of it when you're Aston Villa. We're going the right way and I think we've got the squad capable of mounting a challenge.'

With Adomah finding the net again and putting in another impressive showing, he went on to say.

'He's responded exactly how you want any player to. There's been no sulking - he's got on with it. He's back in the team because of the way he's trained and because he's behaved properly. He got his chance and took it. How can I leave him out now? Three goals in two games - it's a great response. He's a great professional.'

With Hourihane firing in the set piece to give us victory, Bruce was delighted with the way he was growing into the role at the club.

'He's starting to produce what we know he's capable of. It took him a while - we know he took every free-kick at Barnsley and had the most goals and assists. Thankfully it's rubbing off here now. Five goals this season is a great return. I still think there's a lot more to come from him. He's still getting better and getting used to his surroundings. But overall I'm very pleased for him.'

As for injuries, everybody had to be assessed but he was hopeful we had no real issues ahead of Tuesday's game.

'I don't know just yet - we've obviously got a few bumps and bruises. Kodjia has lasted 75 minutes, so we'll check on him on Sunday morning. I'll see how we're looking and then get ready for Tuesday.'

With Burton Albion and Bolton Wanderers next week as we go into the next international break, the aim has to be a further six points.

'It's always a big week - we're Aston Villa. The target now is to go and build on these last couple of games. We're six unbeaten in the league and making steady steps forward.'
