Bruce Previews Cardiff Clash

Bruce Previews Cardiff Clash

Manager Steve Bruce has been previewing this weekend's clash against Cardiff City and he's given an update on the current injury situation at Aston Villa.

Andre Green is now a doubt for the game with a groin issue he picked up in the midweek EFL Cup clash against Colchester United.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media for his pre game press conference, Bruce explained.

'Andre has a bit of a groin issue. We will see how that is this morning. There`s a few bruised but I think everyone is fine.'

Bruce went on to confirmed that Jack Grealish was now out of hospital and he's hoping to see Mile Jedinak return in the next 10 days or so.

'Jack is thankfully out of hospital. He is now recovering. He`s obviously had a nasty injury. We`re hoping Mile is in the next 10 days or so.'

'Kodj is a bit different. We were hoping for just after the international break. He`s a bit sore at the moment so we have to be a bit patient with him.'

The Birmingham Mail have Bruce saying that in some ways he wants to emulate our opposition this weekend in terms of constantly knowing you face a battle against Neil Warnock and he wants us to embody that kind of strength and discipline.

'I`m hoping by the time the window finishes that we`ll have an Aston Villa team in the same sort of mould as Cardiff. The one thing you do know what you`re going to get with Neil Warnock`s team is that they`ll be highly committed, they`ll be up and at you with a physical presence in a lot of areas, very good at free-kicks, very direct and that`s what the Championship is.'

Bruce went on to say.

'We play the complete opposites in the next two away games. One`s going to be physical, a typical Neil Warnock team and then we`ve got Reading who play a totally different way on Tuesday so that`s what the Championship is and we`ve got two big challenges ahead.'

Its places like Cardiff that we need to start winning if we are going to mount a challange, at present I cannot see we have the forwards to score the goals we need, was it 47 last season and with Kodjia out others must step up, including our 'non' scoring midfielders !!! Lets home for a gritty 90 minutes performance from Villa and not the game of two halves we saw last week against Hull.

Agree 100% with what you say Eddy1. I cannot see goals coming from our midfield. We may get the odd few from Chester and Terry through the season, but we can't rely on them. Bruce must bring in a goal scoring midfielder and another striker.

Sure,it's games like this that the team really need to target, not try and go for a point, the manager has been building a strong team, one that should most certainly be strong enough to achieve promotion this season. It won't be as easy as the bookmakers odds, there will be a few unexpected bad results, there will be a team that will challenge the top six that we probably wouldn't expect to be up there.Championship football is a long hard slog. This club has not had any championship experience part from last season,it has proven what a tough division this is,take a handful of teams away, add a handful in and it easily could look like the Premiership. For sure villa will be there or thereabouts come May,certainly this squad is capable of promotion.
