Terry Named As Villa Captain

Terry Named As Villa Captain

On Saturday, Aston Villa confirmed that manager Steve Bruce had handed the captain's armband to summer signing John Terry.

Not a great shock really given his experience, but Terry was selected as our skipper for the first time for the friendly with Shrewsbury Town and he will continue with the armband for the remainder of the campaign.

Presumably vice skippering the side this season will be James Chester with Mile Jedinak backing him up as without Terry they are the two prime picks to have had the armband in my humble this year following their efforts last season.

With his leadership skils and vast experience, it's the logical thing to do I feel..... with all due respect to James Chester.

If i was James Chester, i would be thinking will he really be a better captain than me. Kick in the teeth for the one player who gives his all every game.

Chester's not childish, he'll understand and if anything he'll lean on Terry on learn from him without the pressure of being officially our skipper. He'll look at how he deals with refs, colleagues, when the praise/shout and other things. I really don't see it being an issue but an opportunity for Chester to advance that next level especially as I imagine Terry won't play every game anyway.
