Bruce Still Looking For Quality

Bruce Still Looking For Quality

Manager Steve Bruce has said he's still on the hunt for quality and experience this summer despite Aston Villa clearly needing to move players on.

With a bloated first team squad, Bruce was speaking to the Official Site today about the type of player he was still hoping to add to the group this summer as he wheels and deals.

'When you manage a huge club like Aston Villa, you need big players who can handle the expectation. You need to be able to handle what a big club demands. John Terry, for example, has played at the top level and I know he will handle it, no problem at all.'

Bruce went on to say it's about getting the mix right and he certainly still has targets this summer even though we have been slow to move people out.

'I am really looking to add that experience and quality - Premier League quality if I can - to go with the youngsters and good players that are already here. It`s about getting the mix right. That`s my aim.'

Questioned about his ambitions for the 2017/18 campaign, clearly that's promotion, promotion, promotion.

'I have managed to get promotion four times - what I would do to make it five is probably blatant to everyone who comes across me. I am fiercely determined we will get there. Given time, I know I will get there. Time is the one thing that all managers want. I will do my utmost to make sure it`s this season if we can. This is what this club is. We don`t want to be in the Championship. The quicker we are out of it the better.'

Feeling a little unsettled today after reading on the AVFC Official website earlier under "Press Talk" the following statement : " Daily Star: Aston Villa midfielder Mile Jedinak’s pay demands are holding up his exit after QPR and Derby baulked at his £38,000-a-week wages" This as come as a complete shock ( but could just be media gossip...lets hope so ! I truly hope he's not going anywhere right now, however, if he's injured, we could possibly do with some cover for him, Joe Ledley be a good signing for us, just a thought ? Also, in my opinion we need to source a player who can run up and down the pitch all day long delivering quality crosses for our front men, something that's been lacking for a while, unless of course SB has a player already to fit that berth ? Other than that I think we are starting to look a strong outfit. Yes, you could say we are not getting rid of our unwanted players very quickly, and Armavi's departure turned into a disaster ( cant believe the cheek of them, and then say we don't want him, 5 mins later we'll have him on loan !!!! ****** nerve !! And Gil's loaned out yet again, why we just didn't sell him god only knows ! But we have a couple of weeks to sort that lot out, and hopefully get the deadwood gone and whoever the club feel they need right now in. One thing I did read today was our interest in Exeter City's Goal machine Ollie Watkins...He's a top player and could be a good find for the Villa's future and maybe even now ( depending on how Mr McCormack shapes up !) and I don't think Championship football is a step to far for Ollie either at the present, in fact he could surprise a few people to how good he really is.

Tend to agree with you Steve. The Amavi situation was ridiculous, the cheek of Seville! Gil, yes that's a shame. We need to off load Richards etc but if we can, I'd love to see Veretout in a Villa shirt this season. I'm pretty certain he could do a good job for us this season. Question is, does he want to stay.

Agree on Watkins but sounds like Brentford are his destination. As for Jedinak there's a reason I didn't cover it - it was the Daily Star. I trust them so much I'm impressed they get the date right.

Bruce says we need quality yet we still have many players who are just not good enough and flatter to decieve, when will AVFC sort this situation out? truth is nobody wants them so Bruce talks them up. At present we only have one 'reliable' goal scorer , Hogan gas to prove himself, ditto McCormack , are we expecting Gabby to suddenly start scoring ? our midfield for years hasn't contributed enough goals. We need to start putting games to bed early and I hope we have a more attacking outlook from Bruce this season.
