Jedinak's Defensive Future

Jedinak's Defensive Future

Manager Steve Bruce has again been speaking about Australian international midfielder Mile Jedinak and how he believes his future will be at centre half.

Having added some defensive strength to our midfield and more than received the plaudits for it, Jedinak has been deployed at the back recently in games against Sheffield Wednesday and Wigan Athletic alongside James Chester, and the Birmingham Mail carried these quotes about Jedinak on Saturday morning.

In short Bruce is planning on having a 'conversation' with another well performing beard at the club about extending his career and moving more permanently into the centre half role.

'The big thing with Mile is it might prolong his career to go back. You see people playing up to the age of 38 in the position. There aren`t many playing in central midfield at that age. He's a typical Aussie. He's tough as teak, hard as nails, proper old school.'

Whilst the future conversation was still to be had, Bruce did say that Jedinak certainly had no concerns about filling in for Nathan Baker against Sheffield Wednesday and he seemed to enjoy it, so with a second experience to now lean on following Wigan Athletic, he'll likely be open to the possibility in the future.

'I'll have a conversation with him about it. But midfielders can find the position easy as they`re comfortable on the ball. I think he enjoyed it. There's no question that he can play in a higher division. it was a good acquisition for our club. He has leadership skills. We missed him dreadfully when he was injured. He's been excellent the last few weeks and was equally last weekend, which has given me food for thought.'

I'll be honest, I'm writing this before I've even seen highlights of the tie, so for those with eyes on the game itself how did Jedinak perform in what I presume was a more defensive minded role once again?

Makes sense, set up Dion for a few more years when he moved to the back didn't it?!
