'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Lambert Says Excellent - Today He's Right

Well that was certainly a turn up for the books, more than one solitary attempt on target, a good performance and we're all sat here once again wondering why oh why can't we play at least close to that more frequently.

We all know we can, we show it four or five times a season and then things go pear shaped.

Anyway, enough of that, a well deserved two one victory has made many of our weekends today following the game against Hull Foulers and Lambert and the boys have earnt the right to whatever superlative he chooses to use in his after match interview with the Official Site.

Goals and shots on target from strikers Gabby Agbonlahor and Andi Weimann did leave many of us wondering if we'd taken something we shouldn't have by half time and even Ashley Westwood's oh so close set piece that cannoned off the woodwork has us all giggling like school children, but it was real - I've checked.

A very happy gaffer, without a thrown bottle in sight, said at full time.

'I thought in the first half we were outstanding. The game plan worked and the tactical aspect of the game was fantastic against a very good side - it's a hard system to play at times - the three at the back. I think if we'd have scored another couple of goals, no one could have begrudged us that. That would have made the second half a little more at ease.'

Knowing that Hull would try and throw the kitchen sink at us in the second period, for large parts we handled them well and still could've probably extended our lead. The only shaky time came within the last 20 or so minutes and especially the final 15 where they got a second wind following their goal and yes we had to rely on some good saves from Brad Guzan but even then we limited them to very few clean and clear cut chances, which has to be to our credit.

Of course following the introduction of Jack Grealish - who technically from this point on may only ever be referred to as 'he's got feet as fast as ...' and for the children I won't finish that sentence - the second half could've also been easier if Mark Clattenburg was actually a referee who realised dangerous, malicious and persistent targeting of one player can actually result in red cards for those idiots who engage in it.

Anyway, the positives.

Lambert also picked out Gabby Agbonlahor for his performance on the day as simply put, he reminded us all what he is so capable of doing on the pitch, and we all hope - like the team performance - we see that from him far more often now.

'Overall, it's been a terrific start from us and hopefully we can keep it going.'

Keep performances going like that when results don't go our way, and the majority will remain happy.

In less happy news, Lambert also confirmed that Ron Vlaar did pick up a calf injury in the game, but with the international break to tick through now, he should be fine for when we return to action.

Well I for one lambasted Lambo for going with the same line-up again, but they really delivered today. Pats on the back all around

Congratulations, lambo I'm really pleased Avfc deserve it. Especially the fans.( the sting starts now) If you buy three Quality players before the window shuts. Maybe just maybe you can convince the stay away fans to return. 28000 gate.enjoy your international break. Im still not convinced by you or lerner( your false dawns) May convince others but this fan isn't.

bruce showed the second half he knows his onions,, thats where we need improvement,,, the passion movement passing control tactics end product was just fantastic first half the 3 up front looked really good and the defence was solid and the goal came from a set piece that was needlessly conceded by sanchez the injection of experience and return of zog has given everyone a boost and this is how you introduce the youth,, where they can grow and not have there confidence shattered
David Blurton
Flo...were NOT gonna get three quality players, they cost alot of money, that the manager doesnt have to spend. All the stay away fans wanted was a little more excitement,in this game they got it,We have to deal with the reality and not the wishful thinking...

Fantastic start to the season. Despite the result in midweek I fully expected that today. Unfortunately for BCV We are in for a very good season.
Bikini Inspector
The reality is it is now 40 a ticket in the Upper Holte, that coupled with years of poor football and ever changing kick off times is why fans are staying away.

We are third, only one other team matches our one goal conceded. Imagine the inclusion of Tekkers, we might be on course to flirt with European qualification come next spring. These are early doors, but I can only say that we have not seen a collapse yet. Let's see. UTV.

Great start to the season though points wise, we needed it with the solid run of games coming up! UTV

Not a bad start on the face of things, but todays' performance should be a role model for the rest of the season. Also, we need to perform like we did in the first half for the whole 90 minutes. Surely it's not too much to ask.

When Gabby plays great, we play so much better. He scares defenders and opens up space to help others play better. It wasn't just him of course, but I was having flashbacks to the 6th place days. Buy a new attacking creative mid, get Benteke and Kozak fit and we'll have lots of good options

Best thing about this result is there is nothing better than going into a 2week break with a win under the belt. Life looks so much brighter and the anxiety levels drop and hope prevails. Without trying to rain on the result of yesterday, one thing that concerned me about this game and the Newcastle game is we seem to have a large chasm develop in the 2nd half between our defense and the front line allowing our opponents to control the game and bombard us. Not sure why it happens maybe the midfield get sucked back too far. Fortunately Necastle and Hull weren't able to capitalize on it but if we let it happen over the next 5 games we will soon see how resolute our defense truly is.

Great to see Gabby and Weimann get on the score sheet, no arguments when they play like that just hope they can start to do it on a consistent basis , thought Grealish looked great on the ball and just hope he can save up and get some shin pads especially for the next Hull game !!!!

I just hope that excellent 7 points in 3 games doesn't turn into or 8 points from 8 games. It could well happen, we really haven't played well this season and could get our pants pulled down against the big boys.
LAHADisco
Yes we had a half of lovely stuff. That was at least partly because Potato Head got his formation wrong and Hull were asleep until half time, though. It seems pretty clear that the good start is because the current back four is miles more solid, which in turn makes midfield's lives easier, which in turn allows for incrementally better football across the pitch, which altogether leads to us not being beaten like red-headed stepchildren even by average sides. Chelsea aren't Stoke and Man City aren't Hull. But we've got points on the board, and that's great news.
LAHADisco
Lol Eddy1. I'm sure they won't be the last team to try to break his legs. Vital Villa should be able to do something about raising funds for shinpads!!! The Football Community paying back the club.
Villan444
Good win like most realistic enough not to get carried away we face a row of tough fixtures now the good news is we have picked up points against the teams we should so anything extra really is a bonus. If we continue with this sort of form we at least should be out of danger not even going to consider better than that at this stage.
