No Cup Debut For Cissokho

Manager Paul Lambert has tonight confirmed that left back Aly Cissokho won't make his domestic Villa Cup debut when we face Leyton Orient on Wednesday.

Having been substituted in the second half of the game against Newcastle this weekend with an ankle problem, the gaffer has said that he'll definitely miss the Capital One Cup second round match in midweek, but he is quietly confident that he'll be fine for the league game against Hull next Sunday.

Speaking to the Official Site Lambert explained that Aly would be properly assessed early on in the week to see how good or bad the ankle may be, but he's certainly not going to consider him for Wednesday so if rest is all that is required, he gets it.

Saying he feels at the moment he just 'rocked' the ankle rather than anything more serious, he said.

'I think Aly has just rocked his ankle, we will see how he is. Okay, Wednesday might be a bit too early but we'll see how he is for next Sunday.'

Lambert went on to say it was disappointing that he had to take him off as he felt he was causing all sorts of problems for Newcastle down the left hand side, and he felt he was 'outstanding' on the day and the fact that Newcastle moved Sissoko out to the right to try and deal with him is a testament to how he played.

He also said on the other flank that he again thought Alan Hutton was 'excellent' also.

Nathan Baker, Ciaran Clark or Enda Stevens then you would think?

I'd go with Richardson to drop back and replace Aly...
Pride of Lions
I agree. Good thing about Richardson is he is versatile.

Is Enda stephens still with us?Confused over the number of full backs that have left...rather see him as a specialised full back against lower league oppositon, rather than a converted centre half...

Best thing to miss the cup game, won't say getting points and staying up is our aim this early on but I hope we have a good cup run . We should take this cup serious as the big clubs never bother with it,it would do the club no harm having a go at winning it.

Yes Stephens is still with us and is a natural R/B, he should be the one after all we are not facing City. By the way on a different notewhat has happened Okore? there is no mention of him on the sick list. COTVABU

Yes, I thought he had gone as well Brian little..god. He had two loans last season, last one Doncaster, I forgot he'd come back!

Stevens RB??

Okore's working on his match fitness, got a run out for our U21s against Stoke.

Ah the hilarity we had the other day JF, ten minutes working out which one of us had lost our marbles this time when it came to him still being here lol And neither of us are that sure still!

O.K. We know whose not playing but Lambert won't know whose playing till He gets the numbers out of the Bingo Bag.

I'd much rather see Stevens at LB against Leyton Orient, he gets forward well and it's is natural position. If he can't get the nod ahead of Baker or Clark in this game, then for the love of McGrath let the lad go before the window shuts

Giving KR some match time at LB could be instructive. If he was still on the pitch when AC got his knock he could have slotted in and someone like JG or DB could have come on. So it would be nice to see what KR offers around the pitch, he is quality y'know.
