'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Veteran Battle

The mirror are reporting that 34 year old Esteban Cambiasso is an Aston Villa target. He is out of contract having not been offered a new deal by Italian giants, Inter. Having previously rejected a move to Sampdoria he is now free to choose a club, with Villa and West Ham keen on his services.

Reports suggest that the Hammers are ready to offer him a two year deal worth 50k a week to play his football at Upton Park though Villa are also right in the frame. If correct this would be the ultimate U-turn from Lambert's 'young an hungry' vision and would also represent a risk, given that Cambiasso will be asking us to bet on his 34 year old pegs and his fitness in the worlds most furious league.

Cambiasso is a fearsome competitor, no doubt, but will the fire still burn strong enough for the Villa challenge? This is all a big 'if' as the pull and lure of London life and a last big payday may be too much for the B6 Lions though there is no discounting Villa's massive pedigree, history and the world class facilities on offer. Throw in Roy Keane and Villa might just have a deal.

Even at 34 he'd be our best midfielder, and he has been playing regularly at Inter in Serie A and European competition. I say it's definitely worth offering him a two year deal in the hopes that he becomes our 'Pirlo'. I can't imagine anyone better for our young midfield players to learn from than a combination of Cambiasso & Roy Keane tbh

If it's true whats reported in the Mirror and that Big Sam is after him then he could be worth a punt.
HonestDave
From two seasons of untried, inexperienced kids to 'dad's army' the next. If a potential bid is true then it goes to show that Lambert's vision is as clear as mud, but his tactics are crystal clear, survive at all costs until the new owner arrives. Boy are we in for some ugly football. If you thought last year was hard on the eye , you ain't seen nothin' yet!

from sesama street to stella street, but i think the mix of old and young will be good, will be interesting to see how good the older guys we getting are.

A tug of war with West Sham eh. In that case, guess who's got studs on the bottom of their boots and who hasn't!......

Why are we always being linked to potential West Spam transfer rumours? First Atsu, now Cambiasso, who next...

Joe Cole came here, Wet Spam were not in the hunt. Villa are on the up, Colour Copiers are on the way down.

Sad times that we're only after people who are on their last legs gents. Experience is 1 thing but we're getting it just for the sake of it as that's all we can afford. We cannot afford Tom Ince etc. when Hull can. Lambert isn't doing this through choice, it's a means to an ends. Saying all that, think that we'll be ok. Please NO Bendtner. We've already got Bent, Bennett and Benteke. The team sheet would be laughable. Team of benders/bent players?!?!?!?!

Again.

I see everyones point about 'last legs', but this is esteban freakin' cambiasso we're talking about. He's been consistently excellent at Inter Milan for a decade, and from his games last season that I caught he was still excellent in that holding role. This is a fantastic pro who would only improve us, if only for a season or two. If we sign Ki Seung Yeung & Esteban Cambiasso I would be very impressed by our midfield purchases this summer.
