Roy Keane For The Rumours To Kick On?

Speculation surrounding Roy Keane and his possible appointment as assistant manager to Paul Lambert at Aston Villa continues apace at the moment.

Following the earlier announcements that we were apparently interested in him, and the suggestion that talks had already been had following his decision to rule himself out of the Celtic job, it's now being reported that he has quit his pundit role on ITV.

With suggestions that he ruled out Celtic because he wants to continue as assistant to former Villa manager Martin O'Neill with the Republic of Ireland, if this move turns out to be true it certainly fans the flames when it comes to him potentially joining us.

The Guardian carry quotes from an ITV source who has said.

'Roy has been a tremendous part of our pundit team in recent years, but we fully understand his decision to concentrate wholly on his coaching. We wish him every success for the future.'

Now his pundit role certainly didn't affect his international role, and the choice of words saying to 'concentrate' on coaching, has to imply really he's looking to get back into club life - the question is in what capacity and with who.

If he does come to Villa it would certainly give the players a training ground shock. I can picture them all vomiting into buckets after gruelling hateful sessions.

Can only see this being temporary until we're sold and PL's long term future is confirmed with New owners. I think he'll be a great for us - maybe he'll give Clarke a vote of confidence to improve and impress?

Yeah, as I've already said, it would only be temporary I'd imagine, until new buyers bring their own manager I and turf Lamberk out.

I am thrilled at the thought of Roy Keane pushing Villa for success. Like or loathe him, he has an absolute winning mentality and more grit than Tarmac. I really hope he joins the team.

We need a coach. This is important. I think Keane could potentially be a very good no. 2, but we need a proper coach to help develop the style of play; because stylistically, we are dreadful. People can shout from the rooftops about Lambert's lack of funds/wages but that does excuse the inexcusable - and the inability of our players to get even the most basic of things right, from controlling a ball to stringing passes together, from positioning to movement, is just that - undoubtedly, undeniably, absolutely inexcusable.

For crying out loud - that should have been "does NOT excuse the inexcusable" :)

Couple of thought! Firstly why would w go to the trouble of getting rid of two armature bullies to take on the number 1 bully? And secondly maybe just maybe, as with the sale to Learner, this is a condition made by new owner!!! Just a thought as I can't see why Keane would come with out any assurances he will still have a job at the start of the season!!

villa@herts if the sale has been done, dont you think the owners would be looking for a number 1, rather then a number 2?

Jees! Come on fellas, O'Neill never has done a lot on the coaching field, so we MIGHT get a winner (fact), a player attraction tool, an ex premier league boss, and an international coach, when all we can offer is part time insecurity. Name me a better, experienced, credible number 2 on such terms. If we get Roy for 6-12 months it is possibly the best we could hope for. Don't go to the Lerner club instability route. Facts are facts. Culverhouse/Keane? Step up is certain.

Let's wait and see!! But IMO Keane coming would only make sense as part of a sale!!

Villa@herts - really? You can't see the short term logic? Do you think Irish horse owners are involved?

LOL- and roy being sent in as a scout by O'Neill and once purchased by Irish consortium, would see O'Neill set the record straight at VP with Roy as his number 2? Lol. I'm not on drugs honest!

Lambert doesn't have a recognised number 2 so if it is going to be Keane then I'm all for it so long as the style of play improves and we start to get results. With the club up for sale who is likely to come with all of the uncertainty surrounding us? We have to play the hand we are dealt with so its a case of lets see where this takes us.

I believe that Villa have been sold to Americans. Keane is there to work for them and report back. Lambert will be there at least for the first half of the season depending on results. Bear in mind Man U is owned by Americans the club Keane played for.

Do not read it as we are sold as Keane is keeping his no 2 job for the Republic of Ireland. Could end up no 1 if Lambert decided to go to Celtic, strange that Keane has lost interest in that job.Length of contract should tell you all you need to know.

Roy Keane as #2 to Lambert? That's a hell of a lot of voltage at the bottom of the ticket - there has to be more to this than meets the eye imo but I'm all for it though it would be better if Keane was #2 to Souness so the pair of them could sort out the unmitigated bunch of w****rs in the club from top to bottom at the mo ...
