Gardner Signs Two Year Deal

So much for the contract block (cough), midfielder Gary Gardner has today agreed a new two year deal with Villa.

The 21 year old was presented with new terms a few days back, and having accepted them, he told the Official Site.

'For me, it shows how much the club cares about me and sees me as a central player in the future. The manager and other people at the club believe in me and know what I'm capable of. I want to be a big player for the team next season and I'm going to work as hard as I possibly can to demonstrate the potential they see in me.'

Gardner goes on to say that obviously the last few years have been frustrating for him, as it's literally been a case of one injury after another, and he admits he's tried to rush himself back too often, and play on with injuries, but he knows now it's time for him to establish himself properly and show he can perform in the first team like he did at reserve level for us.

Hopefully he'll be able to do just that as well, as we've certainly not seem him reach the standards we expected, but having signed a 2 year deal now I still don't think it would be a bad thing for him to get a good six month loan spell out to get regular games to bring him on again and make up for some lost time.

This guy must really be as good as we all hope he is. He's been around for ages, hardly played due to injury and is still getting new contracts. Now for the love of McGrath can we just see him injury-free for a while and get a good run in the team, he's been waiting too long and so have we.

Journo's all say that the contract ban doesn't apply to those that would be free agents this summer. Hopefully GG can have a good pre-season and really kick on - we've all been waiting long enough for him to do so. Glad he's still a Villa player, hopefully he can prove what he's capable of!
