Vlaar Set For Contract Talks?

Manager Paul Lambert has said that he will speak with skipper Ron Vlaar before he leaves for World Cup duty later in the season about plans for a new contract.

Vlaar is basically nailed on to be in the Dutch side for the World Cup this summer, and when he returns he'll only have one year left on his existing contract.

Speaking to the Official Site Lambert praised how Vlaar had settled in and started performing this season, acknowledging the fact that last campaign he was still adjusting to the league.

'He's been there, seen it and done it. Ron has been around the block before. He has just adjusted to the pace of the league this season, that's the big thing. Some lads take a bit of time to adapt and it took Ron the best part of a season. This year he's got used to the speed of it and the players he's playing against.'

It's an old conversation now really, but the vast majority seem to have forgiven Vlaar's tendencies from last campaign, and his spells out injured this season have proved what an important member of our backline he now is as results are noticeably improved when he's in the team.

As for the contractual element to this story, the Birmingham Mail amongst others, have Lambert also saying.

'He'll definitely go to the World Cup. He'll go and has been playing well for us. What I tend to do is speak to them before anyway, it's always the case.'

Lambert says he hasn't spoken to Vlaar yet about a new contract, he's just letting him focus on the remainder of the season and letting him enjoy his football, which is the case for a number of players as Lambert isn't looking to do much ahead of the summer when it comes to contracts.

'I'm pretty sure it'll take care of itself but going into the last year you have to look at it.'

With all the injuries he gets, knowing our lot, he'll be offered a pay when you play contract..... as we're so tight on the pennies..... Lol

i actually think if he was not so injury prone, he would have been way more then the 3 mil we paid.
