'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Roncrete Has Now Set

Ron Vlaar has assured fans he now feels 100% fit and healthy following his latest injury wobble.

I don't have to go in to any great details here, simply put there are very few fans who don't see and appreciate the difference our Dutch skipper makes to the solidarity of our defensive unit when he plays now, and how much he has improved individually since his first season in B6

Fans are continually torn on the improvements Ciaran Clark and Nathan Baker have made this campaign, but despite being a fan of both of them, even I can't deny how much stronger we look with Vlaar in the middle, helping to organise them, and doing what 'experience' does for younger, less experienced players when it comes to helping them make decisions.

The 28 year old had problems last season, and following a calf injury he did miss the games against Fulham, Manchester United, Stoke and Crystal Palace - all losses - and also the draw against Swansea.

He returned for the game against Sunderland and then minus Sheffield United, he had a run in the team again and missed the West Ham clash, before coming back for Cardiff.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail from our mini mid season training camp in Portugal, Vlaar said the decision to sit out the West Ham game was good as it game him a rest and allowed him to recuperate further, and having come through the Cardiff game without issue, he now feels 100% as we build up the Newcastle clash.

'I feel good, it's 100% now. It was frustrating after my calf injury in December, but I've only missed the West Ham game this time. Sometimes you have to make a choice, it's not about one game, it's about 12-13, so that's the most important thing.'

Vlaar says that the West Ham game was too soon for him and it was right that he didn't play as he couldn't have given his all in the match, and he was - despite our early heart attacks in the game - Vlaar was definitely more back to his best when we faced Cardiff.

What is key really for us is keeping him fit for our final games, so we can give ourselves the best chance possible of building up some momentum again and attempting to end this season how we ended last season.

Keep Roncrete fit, and we have every chance in the world really, but March is a going to be a rollercoaster.
