U21s - A Return To Winning Ways In 2014

Gordon Cowans' U21 side got 2014 off to a winning start tonight when they faced off against Everton's young talents.

The development fixture list kicked off again tonight with the first match of the New Year, and thanks to an Andreas Stieber strike we travel back with all three points.

The game wasn't without controversy as Liam Bateman found himself on the end of a nasty challenge and there was a degree of handbags following that whilst he was stretchered off, but as yet there is no news on how serious the injury might be.

You can probably make your own minds up on how unlucky he could be when you learn there were eight minutes of stoppage time in the first half following that incident.

Griffiths, McLaughlin, Touray, Ledson, Kenny, Langton, Green (Connolly 82), Williams, C Duffus, Dyson (Donahue 57), Jones (Charsley 69).

Hewelt, T Duffus.

Watkins, Webb, Kinsella, Bateman (O'Brien 21), Donacien, Lewis, Stieber, Sellars, Robinson, Johnson, Burke.

Grant, T Strain, Zazrevic, McKirdy.

Goals - Stieber (61)

Well done to the team, hope Bateman's ok, not the type of challenges we like to see in the game.
Yeah, hope it's not too bad. Well done the Young Lions.

Ruled to be a broken leg, big shame for the lad but hope he can come back stronger.
Yup, Grealish has confirmed Bateman has suffered a broken leg sadly on his twitter. Not seen the tackle myself, hopefully he'll have a good recovery though. Has been involved a fair bit in the U21s from memory this season, so hopefully it won't hold him back too much.
