'If It's Football, It's Vital'

A Work Safe Recap Of Liverpool

Okay, I did this because it made me smile after the Arsenal match, and this time I'm smiling for a different reason. Today really is brighter isn't it.

As said before I don't normally do this, but given the justified criticism I have thrown at the playing side of the club and the manager over the past week especially, I'm nothing if not balanced - maybe not during a match and when frustrated but I do try - so to even things up here's some of the best cracks and comments from yesterday's stormer against Liverpool.

Again, to be nice, this will be work safe, but the Match Thread most certainly isn't, so you have been warned.

Tellamuir - This one might slip by us if we're not careful.

The Fear - We've lost. Sorry to give away the end, should have done a spoiler alert. Next question?

BBJ - I've never seen us lose at Anfield. Having said that, I'll not be there.

Plastic Villan - I'm always optimistic before a game. But I don't have to stand in the rain with the hardcore. I just watch the whole thing from my plastic throne.

Wicked Messenger - This could be a 5 plus goals againster. And yet...could we possibly spoil the party?

mike_field - Have we lost yet?

Clivethevillan - Nah Mike, doing alright, it's still 0-0, a point would be decent here. Bit of time left to hang on yet.

(this little chat was about three hours before the game incase you wonder why it was a bit silly)

mike_field - I'll be happy just seeing them try and play football, that would be enough for me, I'm simple.
BCV - You won't be happy then.
mike_field - Ahhh I never said I would be happy, I said what would make me happy.

We then had a little chat about betting odds. Apparently we were 15/1 to win yesterday's game, and BCV pointed out that those odds were 'like a League One team going to a Premier League team in the Cup.' simont123 then reminded us all that Sheffield United were only 8/1.

(I'm easily excited)

So we were nearing kick off, about 30 minutes off Clive decided to boost all our spirits and tried to get us celebrating the fact we still had 50% possession.

Best comment prior to kick off though...

simont123 - Nice to see Stan doing the prematch talk on Sky, looking much better.

During the game:

Villan Of The North - Let the ritual humiliation begin!

Villan57 - are we losing yet?

The Fear - Bright enough start.

BCV - Christ we're playing alright.

d9ost - have to say, we look like the home team.

derryvillain - Taking the game to Liverpool, good to see.

Plastic Villan - we look half decent. Lambert must have read my piece.

derryvillain - Come on the Villa! So much less depressing if they can play like this.

Bikini Inspector - If they did this at home there wouldn't be many complaints.

The Fear - WTF is this? Villa passing the ball and going forward with intent? This could just catch on.

Adam Deuce - Have we made 10 new signings and no one told us?

I can't repeat the next few posts concerning Clark hitting the post, so we'll rejoin the thread with.

EndOfTimes - Pieman is back. Pieman is back. Pieman is back. Pieman is back.

BringbakMON - Weimann. Perplexing. 60% possession and playing well - what's going on?

BCV - What is happening?

Trekker - Clucking Bell.

bodydouble - WTF IS HAPPENING!!!!!!!

Plastic Villan - can we have MON for the first half of the season and Lambert for the second?

Villan Of The North - Who are this team and where have they been all season?

The Fear - Villa fans signing where's the famous, where's the famous, where's the famous atmosphere - lol

All this was before the second goal by the way, so I'll jump a head a bit now otherwise I'll be here all day, with that said though there are a number of posts I can't repeat from the moment the second goal went in.

hanboroughvilla - Unbelievable! I am going to have a lie down. Bentekers you beauty!

mike_field - why oh why can't we have played like this lately, fair play PL, this was what we wanted, thank you. Now let's go at every sodding team like this.

Always one though...

MiniCooper - I don't know. Kind of disappointed we haven't scored more.

Moving on...

Villa x4 - Have I just woken up from a very long coma?

Kefkat - Where is Clive? Is he passed out in the kitchen?

DaveM - If this stays like this my no drinking for a month is going out the window!

LewChatterley'sLover - Somebody slap me. This is ridiculous.

Wurzel - The best 45 minutes of football from a Villa side for a long time, about time too.

SherlockGT - If we play like that in the second half I will be very happy, win, lose or draw.

Plastic Villan - The Pudding is on.

Skipping right past the penalty decision...

BBJ - However this ends up, it's now been proved that this team has the ability to play reasonable football. There can be no excuse for hoofball tactics after this.

Lost_In_CA - Clive, get back in the kitchen.

Bikini Inspector - OH!!!! Holt was like Zidane then.

Villan57 - I'm tempted to watch, but if I do we'll lose, so I'm hiding.

sirdennis - Vlaar has been outstanding today.

Post game:

Fulford - Well done, great result.

The Fear - Great result against a very good, inform team. Can't complain at that, well done Villa, I feared a thrashing.

PoL - Good point, one I certainly didn't expect.

Clive - Feels like a loss lol Great performance, never expected that today. IF Lambert can get us playing like the first half more often I will be backing him tbh I know I sound fickle cos I am!
SherlockGT - Not fickle at all mate, we have all said if he can get the team playing good football we would be 100% behind him, regardless of results.

Wurzel - If Villa played like that every week we would win more game and I for one would have nothing to complain about.

Plastic Villan - Performance of the season?

BBJ, if you remember his earlier comment, well I left off the bit where he said he'd start dancing through the streets. He came back and let us know that the promise had been kept but unfortunately no photographic evidence existed.

BCV - First half was the best we've played this season, including Arsenal away. If we'd gone in 2 or 3 nil up nobody could have said anything. We took the game to them, PASSED the ball and created chances.

Yes, all of us very worried about our own Victor Meldrew, but he wasn't finished there, he carried on being happy. I've never seen BCV happy. It's scary.

Charizma - Well, that performance was a turn up for the books. Well done lads, proud of you!

holtelower - Well spank me on my bottom and call me Gerard. Where the hell did that come from?

We were all thinking that when we read his post as well!

avfc_1892 - Now that was the kind of performance I and many other have been crying out for all season! All those saying we are spoilt brats wanting it now now now....INCORRECT! If we played actual football this season like we did yesterday and was in this position I would be over the moon!

I don't think I end that better than avfc_1982's point to be honest.

That was a nice article, after a very nice weekend (bar the incident) Thanks Mike
"I don't think I've ever seen BCV happy, it's scary" Brilliant because it's both funny AND true.
villan of the north
Yep, nice little read. It just goes to show....
Pride of Lions
still want Lambert sacked negative people?
One ******** win ric112 and Lambert is our saviour, the team played fantastic no doubt, but Lambert still has a lot to prove, and for me he can still go, because I've had to endure 18months of *****e, one win here and one win there doesn't make everything ok.
How about a draw Eltoro ? lol. No your right we played well today but we have had to endure some awfull **** along the way. Like the majority of Villa fans I dont expect us to be top of the premier but I do want to see us playing attractive football at least, and not resorting to Mcleish style hoofball from Guzan to Benteke you have set the standard Lambert now keep it.
Agreed Merlin
Not if we keep playing like that Ric....afterall, that was the only thing us 'negative people' were actually asking for. You know, sport, football, entertainment, attempt to win?
Only just clocked on Merlin a DRAW, got so carried away with the performance I forgot we didn't win, just shows yer doesn't it, a great performance and the result isn't has important.
