'If It's Football, It's Vital'

No Swansea Return For Injured Duo

Manager Paul Lambert has ruled out both Christian Benteke and Ron Vlaar for the upcoming one sided affair that a team from Wales will dominate.

Benteke remains out with his 'knee' problem, but Lambert is partially confident that he will return for the Sunderland loss on New Year's Day.

Vlaar however has no expected timescale for a return as of yet with his calf problem seemingly no nearer to recovery.

I'm not sure if we are getting the excuses in early, but when it came to talking about this subject to the Official Site, the gaffer said.

'When you look at the likes of Vlaar, Benteke, as well as Ashley Westwood and Jores Okore, that's the core we're missing. These are big players.'

Admittedly Vlaar has more than played his part this season, and so was Benteke prior to injury but injury or not Chris hasn't been right since returning when it comes to form so at the moment unfortunately it is a case of with him out, it doesn't make a difference as lately for whatever reason, he hasn't been having an impact.

Westwood hasn't lived up to the form he showed last year, but the Palace game was his one match suspension, it's not like he's been out for ages either.

As for Okore, we all have high hopes of the impact he can have for us when fit again, simply because he does seem to have lots of potential, but lumping him in that sentence when so far he's barely played five minutes for us, is a bit of a stretch.

Oh well, if Lambert feels we are missing our 'big players' then of course in January he's going to supplement the depth of the squad isn't he, so we have more 'big players' to rely on.
