Gabby Hoping To Earn Extended Deal

Gabby Hoping To Earn Extended Deal

Striker Gabby Agbonlahor has said he'd be delighted if the club approached him with a new contract offer, but he's not worried as he still has 18 months left on his remaining deal.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail the 27 year old said that given how long he'd been at Villa now it would feel strange to pull on the shirt of another club, so his aim and hope obviously is to earn a new contract with us.

Agbonlahor signed his first professional deal with the club back in the summer of 2004, and has only had two spells away from the club on loan with both Watford and Sheffield Wednesday back in 2005.

As fans will know last season he became our leading goal scorer in the Premier League, replacing Dwight Yorke at the top of the pile in that particular record, and he's always said he'd love to build on that as and when chances allow.

Agbonlahor's full career record now stands at 274 starts in all competitions, along with a further 34 from the substitutes bench. In that time he has scored a total off 76 career goals.

'Of course, but I've still got a year and a half left, which is a long time in football and you leave it until the right time. It's hard in this league to be a one man club but it's always been on my mind to play for Villa until I retire. It feels weird even thinking about putting another shirt on.'

Gareth Barry remains our longest servant in the Premiership having played 440 times in 11 years, but Gabby is coming up close now having made his debut for us seven odd years ago and currently on 295, but he says himself the only important thing really is continuing to play, continuing to progress at the club and hopefully push us up back where we want to be. Equalling or beating Barry's record would be fantastic, but that's not his be all and end all.

I will take to the streets in arms if we let him go. That being said, Villa are going to sign him up and would not dream of allowing him to leave. Devastating pace and power and a match winner on his day plus he's a local boy born and bred.
