'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Der Hammer Retires

Former midfielder and the man with a fantastic German Brummie accent, Thomas Hitzlsperger has announced his retirement from football.

At the tender age of 31 years young, the player has admitted his body has been given him signs that it was time to hang up his boots following a number of injuries, so that's exactly what he's done.

During his time at Villa he made 114 appearances for us over five years and scored 12 goals.

To commemorate the fact most of them were bullet screamers, the Official Site have published a free video of six of the best of them.

On offer for fans are his strikes against West Brom, Blues, Portsmouth, Bolton, Leicester and Arsenal.

I remember the goal against West Brom and I haven't even watched the video yet.

Great memories. Didn't score that many, but when he did, they were special

Not a bad goal number considering he was a CDM. Sad to see The Hitz step out but what can you do when your body tells you no more. Best of luck to you in your retirement hope to see you around in a coaching capacity at the Villa one day, hint hint ;)
