'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Bannan Deal On Hold?

Blackburn manager Gary Bowyer has confirmed a fee has been agreed with Villa for wee midfielder Barry Bannan, but he won't guarantee that a move will happen.

The fee is rumoured to be 750,000 for the now out of favour Scottish international, and there are various quotes doing the rounds at the moment:

'It's still ongoing. These things take a little bit longer than managers want. We've just got to keep working hard at it and try to get things over the line. If it doesn't happen then we've got other targets that we can certainly aim for.'

Another quote doing the rounds says:

'We had a bid and that was accepted, but we've not continued talks at this present moment in time. We've exploring all options, there might be a chance it might happen, if not we have to be prepared for it not happening.'

Seems sensible for everyone to part on good terms and move on now as clearly, if shirt numbers are anything to go off, I'm more likely to get game time this season than wee Bazza.

In other transfer news the saga that is Darren Bent continues with the press suggesting that Fulham and Newcastle are close to meeting our vastly reduced valuation for the former England striker.

The press speculate that Fulham have had two bids of under 5million rejected recently and with the London club opening bids, it's expected Newcastle will soon show their hand.

In the final transfer news of the day that I can see so far, Alan Hutton's move to Mallorca has also stalled.

The media are carrying quotes from coach Llorenc Serra Ferrer who apparently told Spanish media:

'Today I am pessimistic. Everything had gone well, starting talks with Aston Villa, which was the most difficult and complicated because they introduced illogical clauses. We had also done well with the finances, because we could not pick up the entire tab for Hutton. But it has become complicated because the player is now asking for other things and that cannot be. It has to stop.'

Now I won't proffer what personal terms Hutton might be asking for in the deal, but it seems a bit childish for Mallorca to claim we introduced 'illogical clauses' whilst also saying they couldn't pick up the whole tab.

Clearly it means we wanted future based clauses to offset any 'help' we gave them in terms of picking up the whole tab. Seems perfectly logical to me - why should we lose out.

Hurry up out the club Barry Bannana you've been a parasite on the club for too long now! UTV!

To be fair, although I know he isn't popular with a lot of us, he was given a contract, he signed it, he is entitled to stick to it. Not keen on any character who drinks and drives (as I know a family devastated by the consequences of such stupid and thoughtless actions) but as said, we gave the contract to him!
The Fear
4 out of the 5/6 we want rid of stalling and messing around FFS. Money over football it seems. I am surprised at Hutton too as I didn't think he was like this. Yes we gave them the contracts however they seem to want the money more than to play. I know there careers are short lived however they are still on more money used wisely than they will ever need. How the other half live eh! To us they are on a fortune, but to them well.......

He did show a lot of potential earlier in his career. The thing that annoys me, and most others, is that he keeps trying the hollywood ball. Even when there is nothing on, he will hoof a 40 yard ball in the hope that someone is running onto it. If he kept things simple, thought about what he was doing, and tried to control the pace of the game, I think he would be an asset. It will be best for both parties for him to try and revive his career elsewhere.

they'd be mad to move for less money (unless it isn't much less) though kefkat?
The Fear
Well if he doesnt move his career will be over. He will sit in the reserves until his contract is up, no one will want him and he wont be able to command any sort of salary...I cant imagine he's on more than 25k per week (which is far too much for him anyway?) and he is in no postion to ask for more! If he cant be bothered to move for 10-15k a week and build up his reputation as a footballer in the Championship instead of a drink driver with a bad attitude then it's up to him.

Why are we messing about we've already made colossal losses I see little point in trying to limit our expenditure further when itl cost us more to keep them around...

BB worth more than 0.75M, but it is a buyers market for surplus stock as the deadline approaches, and a sellers market for the superstars. I think he's holding out for the PL in the last moments before the deadline. Hope he gets it and hope he still makes it.

He could quite easily be as good as Westwood if he wanted to, similar player but Westwood keeps it simple and it works. The championship will be good for him but not sure if Blackburn are the right team as they're all over the place. He probably wants more money to soften the blow of playing for them! I reckon he'd take a wage cut for the right club.

Worst Villa song ever? 'Who needs Barry we've got Barry Bannan' Made me cringe that one!
The Fear
Think Bannon & Hutton are shining examples of why it takes a manager 4 years to put a club right unless there are huge amounts of money to spend (chelsea & man city) Those that have stuck by there manager for longer than this (man utd & arsenal) have enjoyed great success. Why more than 4 years ? because the cycle of contracts these days tend to be a maximum of 4 years so you cant get rid of deadwood if they choose not to move even though you would prefer to sign others to replace them. Its hard to watch our beloved club in this slog but unless we break the new rules i cannot see an alternative to the way Lamberts working although I still feel he is to stubborn by ignoring experiance in his signings. Please after the Benteke episode no more talk of young and hungry as opposed to journeymen. Regardless of age these days they are all journeymen.
