'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Trio Sign New Deals

Sammy Carruthers, Michael Drennan and Graham Burke have all signed signed new two year deals.

The trio have come up through the Academy and played their parts in our successful NextGen European win last season.

Speaking to the Official Site Sammy said.

'It's great for me to commit my future to Villa where I've grown to this point in my career and hope to progress further. Now I've just got to try and work hard and try and get into the first team. Nearly isn't good enough, you have to go for it.'

Burke, the top scorer (7 goals) in the NextGen Series added.

'This year I'm hoping to push on in the first team. I got a taste for it last year, coming on in two games. The aim this year is to play more and hopefully I can achieve that.'

Almost NextGen top scorer (6 goals, 6 games) until he unfortunately suffered an injury in the quarter finals?, Micky Drennan said that he hoped to follow in the footsteps of Andi Weimann.

'He's done really well for himself. He's an international, starting for his country and he's a regular for Villa as well. He went out on loan and came back and proved himself, if I have to go out on loan I'm prepared to do that. Hopefully I can push on now, get myself into the gaffer's thoughts, that's my aim.'

Good to see us tying them down, and you'd hope Burke and Drennan get a good loan spell this summer, Sammy should be pushing for the first team and you'd expect him to figure in pre season.

Good luck lads. Based on recent trends I guess 1or 2 will make it. Hope so, much more interesting to see lads progress than some superstar strut his stuff for oodles of cash.

Chuffed about samir Caruthers after such limited opportunities last year when I thought the team was crying out for him at times I feared that he would be off. Really hope he gets a chance to play this season

I thought the same about Carruthers, thought we would lose him but he must be in Lamberts thoughts, and chuffed about Drennan and Burke been hearing nothing but good about these lads, i hope to see them in cup action and in the first team reckoning over the next twelve months go on lads go for it!!

Never convinced a 2 year deal is worth much is it - assume one of them has a 'breakthrough' season this year and then we'll be in the same mode as usual of waiting for someone to snap them up...?

Just out of interest. How much are these kids on a week. Any idea?
