Door Not Closed On Belhanda Deal?

If Villa have any interest in Montpellier's Younes Belhanda the sticking point could be the fee the club want for him.

Sky Sports are carrying quotes from the 23 year old midfielder who they say still interests Aston Villa, along with AC and Inter Milan and Galatasaray, and he has revealed the fee that this current club want to do business at:

'Nothing has been decided yet. My club wants (12.5million) and not many teams can pay that.'

He continues to add that his preference remains England, but unless Montpellier reach agreement with somebody it's likely he will be seeing out his contract.

We've done well this year to tie up quick deals for targets and we haven't been overpaying on what appear to be reasonable sensible transfer fees (if that's not an oxymoron in today's transfer market) so if we do want Belhanda, the closer we go to deadline day will see Montpellier start to budge on the fee they want.

Or of course it could just be guff as given we have already signed a few midfielders this season, Lambert must be confident of shipping people out if he plans to add more competition to the position.

HHHhhhmmm. Belhanda. Surely he'll sign just for our persistence. However I think that this bird has flown. The renewed stories are only a precursor to his main targets. There will be others but this would have been nice.

I know what Mikes's doing CDX, he is sitting in that chair just like Sharon Stone did in that movie giving us a flash and a wink of hope, please let this be true we need a top player or two like this and we can really ruffle a few feathers in the premier league

I would actually love Villa to pull this off (or a similar talent). One, it makes a statement to the rest of the league "We are buying the best talent in Europe so watch out!". Two, it would be a marquee signing. As good as our other purchases are on paper, they are still unproven. A marquee signing settles the nerves. Three, it signals that Lerner is still willing to push for a top 6 spot and is willing to spend some money to do it. We have been reducing the wage bill for a number of years. It would be nice to see us buy top talent for once instead sell it on...

I think further deals like this will depend on if the club can move on bent and Ireland etc. Once there are off our wage list we can probably afford this kind of deal.

I see this as being a question of How much do we really want him? If we are genuinely interested then I see no reason why we wont sign him up, Only stumbling block would be a Champions League team coming in for him and it appears nobody is willing to pay his transfer fee from that bunch.

Very sceptical of this guy..It all seems a little too hasty in firstly his club wanting to get rid of him...And second he keeps going to press making it known he wants out. Maybe they looking for a sucker to sign him up. Also how modest is he? Or is someone that thinks he is God's gift? Up to now every interview on all our new signings have come across as humble, with the players looking to be willing to earn their name at the club. Does he want to play in England or for Aston Villa? Okore and co' pretty much all said they wanted to play for Aston Villa first and foremost.

very unlikely because we have already signed Tonev and Bacuna who can play in AM

Agree with Green tea on this one! Might be a great player but could be a trouble maker who could upset the balance of the squad! His statement of wanting to play in the prem ,could be another Benteke situation!

Wow that would be some signing if you pulled it off, although he was poor last season the guy has bags of talent & was instrumental when they won the league 2 years ago. His recent poor form has put many teams off but i think at Villa he would thrive! I think you're still far too lightweight in midfield and at Fullback though if you ask me, Bannan & Delph has to be up there as the worst midfield in the league. Defence suspect too. Thats where i'd be splashing the cash!

Fear, if memory serves their chairman said 10 million which is like....12 million euros? Dunno if thats what he meant, or maybe he is trying to start a bidding war? HuddersfieldYiddo, fair points, although I must say our Bannan/Delph pairing barely figured at all this season, since Lambert lost confidence in Bannan after our christmas drubbings. It's been a midfield trio of Sylla/Delph/Westwood and they ended the season really well. We do need defensive reinforcements though most definitely.

We won't be paying 12m or anything like it for any player in the foreseeable future. If and when we get established in the top six then we may see larger amounts paid out. Until then it's lower priced players looking to make a name for themselves.

Sorry for that Mike lol ive got a vivid imagination or im loony, I also read the Montpellier chairman on SS saying 14 million Euro's is the asking price a while back so thats about 12 million i think, Randy i believe would stump up that money as provern to be fair but its if Lambert wants too more than anything, maybe a loan with a view to buy but any further purchases we all know hinge on wether we can shift Ireland Given Bent so i expect a month or so before we know what Lambert can do

Agree with ClivetheVillan. If those three don't move on next quickly i can't see Randy parting with that king f money. If we are interested and miss out because of timing it'll be very annoying.

Be very surprised if he turns up. We can only field 11 and we've just bought half a team. I know competition is good but you don't buy players to compete with each other and there's surely no place for him now?!?! Competition for Sylla unless El Ahmadi can step up is needed more.

From what I have read, this guy could be the perfect signing. I would see Belhanda and Murphy as completing our business and giving us an excellent squad (as long as we keep hold of Tekkers) with real potential. But we do need to get rid of Bannan, KEA, The Zog (might be hard with injury), Ireland, Bent, the Fonz, Stevens, Hutton and Given to create the wage capacity for Belhanda and Murphy.
