'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Holman To Al Nasr

It's being reported in the press that Brett Holman will arrive in Dubai on Friday to sign a two year deal with Al Nasr.

The National.ae carry quotes from Fahad Hadi who is apparently on the board of the club, and he says:

'Brett represents a strong signing for us as he's an international player who has played in England, one of the top leagues in Europe. He has the qualities that we needed at Al Nasr and, most importantly, he has a lot of experience. It's good to have someone with that knowledge in our squad, and he will only improve the team.'

It's expected that Holman will sign a two year deal at the club and if all goes well, Al Nasr expect to announce his arrival to the press on Saturday.

Bit surprised thought he'd stay on as a squad player and would have a role to play but obviously not... While he did little wrong and gave 100% he's no loss look at the club thats signing him...
CDX_Eire
Obviously he needs to play to keep himself in the Aussie World Cup squad. Also obvious he wouldn't be playing at Villa after stating the obvious back in January. Good luck Brett thank you for those couple of great goals.

I liked him as a squad player, but got fed up with his moaning. It was inevitable he would leave, so one more down!

I'm very surprised he's dropping down to this level though? I would've thought maybe a Palace or a Hull would have taken him in a heartbeat - particularly given we got him free, so probably very little fee involved and his wages wouldn't have been that high? He's worried about getting playing time to put himself in the window for World Cup squad selection - and yet he's moving to Dubai?? Go figure!?

Not surprised by this. Australia secured qualification on Wednesday so I expected he'd move on soon after to ensure he gets as much playing time as possible prior to the world cup. I wouldn't be surprised if Chris Herd looked for a move too - he's made no secret of his desire to force his way into the Socceroos squad. He's a solid mulit-position squad player though so I personally hope we keep hold of him.

@Yatesy, most of the Aussie squad play in the Australian, middle east, Dutch or German leagues so it's a good place to be for him. In fact his fellow socceroo Mark Bresciano is already at Al Nasar which has no doubt influenced this decision.

A mediocre player at best. Shall not be missed.

I appreciated his work rate but his form, a little like El Ahmadi, went out of the window around October. Solid worker but lacked the cutting edge we need. At least he had a go. Good luck to him.
VILLA_GRIZZLY
Poor player, ran round like a headless chicken. He had a go so good luck to him in Dubai.

has there been any mention of the fee. it would be nice to know we at least turned a profit on him. even if the fee was just enough to have covered what we paid in wages for the last 12 months it would be a nice bit of business

Great news, good luck to him as he tried but didn't have what we needed so would not have played, we have plenty to play his position now so taking his wages off ours makes sense. Just hope Bent, Nzogbia, Bannan, given and maybe albrighton can be moved on quickly as well as I think we will make a few more additions once those big earners give us some space to breath with the wages.

Interesting point about the fee. He signed on a free (Bosman stylee). But if he signed for more than 12 months, can the club demand a fee if he leaves early ?? Apart from wages, we have "invested" time and money in training, development blah. Or maybe we owe him money because he helped train the kids.

I liked him and he scored a couple of goals for us but clearly didn't fit with Lamberts plans/philosophy. Best of luck to him, and thanks for that goal against QPR (with how close last season was, every point counted in a big way)
zigthevilla
Good luck to him, helped secure some points and never lacked in effort.
