Antonio Luna Joins Up

Aston Villa have completed the signing of former Seville left back Antonio Luna.

And yes, he did tell the Official Site he was over the moon.

Ok he didn't.

The 22 year old has signed a three year deal at the club.

'I've always believed that I could play in the Premier League and to have this opportunity with a club as historic and huge as Aston Villa and with a manager who is building a squad of young players with great prospects is tremendously exciting for me.'

I was going to go with Lunar Landing but thought better of it.

Just hope he keeps his feet on the ground. Is that it now, or is another keeper expected? Interesting if Holman is off, we have so far lost 4 (Petrov, Dunne, Lichaj and Holman) and gained 5. Lose Bent and its quits and last year we had a young, inexperienced and thin squad. Hmmm.

Welcome to the Villa, we have decent competion for the left back slot now. We surely must have spotted this guy whilst checking out Hutton's performances for Mallorca?

Hope he is not just a squad player. Bennett at times was shocking, god going forward but a fullbacks main job is to defend.

Yes but of those 4 contributed 31 starts between them, through illness, injury or falling out of favour. The 5 coming in have the potential to contribute to the first team. Some will become early regulars, I'm thinking particularly of Okore. To be fair to him Stan is still contributing and I would argue he played a greater role last year than Bent in our survival.

Excellent news. Bennett needs some pressure to get his act together. Welcome Antonio.

I read a blog from a fellow Villan who did a brief analysis of Luna. He averaged double the number of tackles per game and while Bennett only completed 3 of 43 crosses during the season, Luna completed 13 from 30. As he said though, he hadn't seen him play but stats wise he seems far better...

I'm sorry I have to disagree with the above...its an average beard. Once you'vegrown a mellberg there's no going back.

All this signing of players early with age on their side and bucket-loads of potential ..... It's getting boring..:). What happened to waiting until August/January 29th and making moves on legends such as Djemba-Djemba, Heskey etc.... :). :).

Luna is a quality signing, the only reason he hasn't progressed at Sevilla is because Navarro plays left back and is obviously first choice ever present. Should bring Bennett on a bit too if he has finally settled and got over his homesickness. UTV

Yes gibbo, the press training is great now and warms us to them before they've even kicked a ball!! Either that or they're forced to sit through a slideshow/video of Aston Villa before they're allowed to sign on the dotted line. Welcome addition though.

Looks better than what we have going on stats and he also has a fair bit of Spanish youth games under his belt and the wealth of talent they have that not bad going. I'm looking forward to seeing Lowton, Vilaar, Okore and Luna line up next season.

Not seen any of our new signings play so have to give them time and games to see how they do. Would say for me Baker was our best defender last season and its Vlar who will have up his game. But certainly hoping PL has unearthed a couple more gems.

@merlin128777 Would have to totally agree with you on that Vlaar did not really impress me last season, but baker was fantastic throws himself at everything reminds me of terry a little bit. what about clark? back from injury i rate him ALOT !
